I'm sure I'll get the usual 'Search the Forum' answers, but trust me, I have searched and I'm not getting the answers I'm looking for.

Can those in the know please advise me the following:

1.) Does Telkom still sell 512k ADSL? Or is the 'Faster' option now officially a 1mb line?

2.) I wish to have an uncapped line. I will be utilising the line heavily during weekdays from about 20H00 to 05H00 (no usage at all during the other times), and then heavily over the weekends as well. Usage will be for dowloads, videos and possibly gaming. MWEB's uncapped 1mb option seemed like a good choice, as the cost would be R588(Mweb) + R133 voice line rental = R732 per month. But after reading on the forums that Mweb will throttle you severely, even write you a letter and cancelling your service, it seems clear that its not the way to go. As my budget is very price sensitive, can I please have some honest input on which route I should follow.

IF the Telkom 512 option is now a 1mb option, thats the route I would like to go, uncapped. But if the Faster option is still a 512k line, I don't think its worthwhile at almost double the cost of the 384 package. Then I would rather go for 384 uncapped.

Thanks in advance.

yes the 512k is now 1mb lines.

only an you if you ssl over usenet http ports etc, use the mweb news server then you will be fine.

other option is openweb gold 1mps or the gold PLUS

if buy a paid news server from newsdeamon and usenetserver.com they offer ssl over port 80 and 8080 which bypass shaping.

Dont bother with other stuff. Just get 1mb Openweb GOLD Plus and be done with it.
