I currently have a 10mbps ADSL line through Telkom directly.

I have been contacted by Rain and offered their 5G service (uncapped, unshaped @ R1000 pm).

I have been looking at other option for faster speeds and given Telkom's ADSL decommissioning exercise. (I don't have Fibre available).

We all know the hell of trying to cancel anything through Telkom, so I wan't to cancel the line and go for the Rain deal (limited offer), but I can't afford to pay Rain's R1k and Telkom's R800 per month until I eventually get the line cancelled.

I was thinking if it would be a better route to move the ADSL line to an ISP and then cancel through them? At least I will then only be stuck trying to cancel the voice line part of the line with Telkom?

What are the timelines of moving the line to an ISP? Are there interruptions in service? I already use Afrihost for my ADSL login details, cause the Telkom Do Broadband is painfully slow.

Any tips or advice or am I just going to have to suffer this through?

According to these threads, you will serve two cancellation periods as the line will move back to Telkom :

So it seems you just gonna have to suffer this through and hope they cancel on time and stop billing you.
Good luck!
