I need some help

Netgear DGN2200v4 router Firmware Version V1.0.0.24_5.0.8.
ISP Afrihost 4MB Business Uncapped subscribtion

For more than a month now I have a problem where my internet connections drop and I have to reset the router every time for it to reconnect. Have spoken to Afrihost and Telkom, they have recreated the port on a number of ocassiontions.
Since the problems at Afrihost (authentication failure) on 30 April the line keeps dropping regulat. Max up time is about 20 min to 30 min, before that the line use to drop about 10 to 15 times daily.

Any advice what I can do to have problem resolved

Maybe wait for afrihost to resolve the problems they have acknowledged first then see if it persists after which you can chase them for problems isolated to your account

I have been waiting for more than 20 days for Afrihost to fix my prblem, how much longer do you suggest I do wait for them. They just close the calls without it being resolved. Really I don't want to sound sarcastic but surely if they have know what to do the problem would have been fixed by now.

Apart from my problem the Afrihost Authentication Failure problem is not something new to them, it happens at least once every 2 months if not more. If you access the Afrihost website they do say their network is functioning 100% without any problems, so I do take it that the Authentication problem has been resolved.

Have you tried a capped account from another ISP (some have free 1Gb accounts)?

THis problem has been going on for me for about a year on one of my lines. Like 10-15 times a day. Eventually the physical line was replaced now just drops 3-4 times a day. I have learnt to live with it. Tried it on a mweb account and same thing happened but only after a few days of being with them. No explanation can be given. My stats are perfect and i have lowered my line speed and same problem exists. My guess is you will be the same. Learn to live with it

We had a problem up until 1am on the 30th April/1st May - but all these issues should resolved and connection/authentication has been normal again generally.

We'd need to look into the specifics of what's happening in your case, so please drop me a PM so I can have our guys investigate this properly :(

Sad that you have to live with something like that - but I guess it's better than previously. I totally understand - have had a noise problem on my phone line for 10 years. Somehow my brain has learned to tune it out. Every now and again I get reminded when people say "Dude, your phone line sucks" :(

Can I shed some light here?
I am seeing increasingly cases of routers that seem to have compatibility issues with the new MSAM equipment in the exchange. This is becoming such a problem I am actually planning to set some time aside to run the firmware through a debugger and see what the problem is. I was also affected, thanks to TelkomZA's help I found it was my router. Brand new, nothing wrong with it, but for reasons unknown, it upsets the equipment in the exchange and the line drops. I have three sites now where the routers are all doing this same thing, all the routers are the same (Cisco WAG120N). Replacing them with "Telkom Issue" Netgear routers i.e. with the Telkom and "do" logo on them, resolves the issues.

It's the first time I'm hearing this to be honest - so I don't know how much help I can be here. If Telkom have identified this issue they have not made us aware of it officially. As far as I know the standard protocols apply to all router models, so I am pretty surprised to hear this.

Could you PM me the info you have, or email me on [email protected]?

Just an additional note - see the router you mention is ADSL2+ and as far as I know that is not an issue for MSAN's - so can't confirm that it causes an issue from my side :(

My problem was resolved after Telkom and Afrihost recreated my ADSL port. Since this was done on Friday afternoon I have had no problems. Will monitor the link to see if something of the past. Thanks for all the responses

I've had this issue for 6 weeks now (since having the line installed). Tried using multiple routers (Netgear N150). Also with Afrihost.

Sorry to hear you're having issues with the line :(
Has anything been logged with our Support team on this yet?

What are your line stats?

have you tryed a new router?

i had that problem wiht my old router (trendnet) ya i know its K@k
then i got myself a tp link w8970 been solid,no drops, even line stats were better

This is likely this is due to an electric fence discharging to a telkom line somewhere in the area, or a dry joint somewhere on the copper.
