ADSL pricing comparison

They should say how many bigmac one can buy for the price should be more relevant

I'm sure that these articles lead to a mass case of depression for all of us that read them

FTA: Telkom offers consumers a 384 Mbps service with a 1 GB usage limit for R 199 per month.

Bit of an editorial oversight there I'm assuming? Or are these top secret connections available to the MyBroadband Staff Writer?

Add in the compulsory phone line rental and the stats look even worse for Telkom...

But really, who cares? What can we actually do about it? Forgive me for seeming a little negative and despondent, but we have no power here. This situation has been the way it is for years and only the threat of competition has had any effect on Telkom's pricing. And let's face it, there's NO competition in the ADSL space. And there won't be until LLU. Until then, Telkom will continue to not give a ****.

Its a flawed comparison for many reasons... the main one being that the comparison should have been with other African countries. There are a million excuses as to why European countries would have better broadband offerings but I think anyone would STRUGGLE to explain why countries like Kenya and Ghana would have cheaper internet.

Now that would be a good article.

Juice , true I forgot about the compulsary Telephone line. And because I now have a telkom line I might as well take the option where I can get some free mins. I am such a sucker !! :) !!

Yes, our broadband IS expensive compared to other countries, but you can't make up a flawed comparison and invent units like Price/Mbps/GB and think it proves your point.

it is a 0.384mbps which equates to 384kbps which makes it even more heartbreaking:sick:

it's time to get UN-SCREWED !!

Come on ISP's have the BALLS to be the 1st to step up to the plate and give us the consumers what we want .i.e CHEAPER BROADBAND and the sooner the better ...seems like the ISP's are waiting for someone to make the 1st move before starting the usual price war saga !!

I'll take the BT UK unlimited 8Mbps option for R324 thanks.

Sad to tell you this but at moment I have 50mbit uncapped for R324 from Virgin here in the UK.

Then again, 2mbit uncapped here is free with most things, your mobile contract, tv, satellite, swear you can buy a dishwasher and they'll throw in free broadband...

Only once you have seen / used real broadband do you realise how useless South Africa's is. Having 4mbit at home (Umhlanga) felt like a 384 line over here with the latency etc.

8ms ping to Google vs something in the 400 / 500's, SHOCKING!
