ADSL versus HSDPA

HSDPA is only really available in urban areas so this isn't much of a factor. Even in dense urban areas ADSL's losing to HSDPA.
Even in urban areas the sprawl, and the low number of high density dwellings, contributes to the low number of phone lines.
Ask yourself why most people have not even the option of cable TV in this country. No cable TV, low number of landlines, low quality of landlines where they are installed, all have the same common root problem, urban sprawl.

'but the fact that the mobile providers are actually winning the battle suggests both a poor performance by the fixed broadband provider and a great performance by the mobile providers.'

MUSIC TO MY EARS

... yes, I know CAPS are on.

I would say that the HSDPA numbers have to be shown in a more transparent manner. A poster pointed out above that anyone with a 3G capable phone has access to broadband. Phone up your service provider and have it activated. Voila you are now part of the HSDPA community.

Of course it doesn't mean that you are using any real data or using it as your primary method to access the internet.

Plenty of companies hand out HSDPA modems to connect to the company's VPN etc. Does this mean that a person is using it as their primary method to access the net? Nope.

ADSL still comes out tops for downloading etc. HSDPA is good for office use (email, surfing the net), otherwise the cost is insane.

All I am saying is that the HSDPA numbers can be completely off. There might be a ton of users added but how much are they actually using?

Best way to compare them and of course it would prolly be impossible to gather such information, would be to find out what the average data use is on the 2 services. I can tell you that 3G will be nowhere near ADSL.

Or even the total bandwidth used per month (by all customers) on each service.
