Howsit one and all.
looking for a backup data plan. i have a portable wifi router. so its a matter of a data sim that i am looking for.
5GB a month is more than i require.

currently i am looking at the telkom deal for R139. 11GB per month on a 2 year contract.

i have little to know issue with the telkom network were i am.

thanks guys.

Why contract? Why not prepaid?

R299 for 5GB pm on prepaid or R139 for 10.5GB pm on contract? And it's not like it's Vodacom where you have OOBshark.

Remember cool_gi, you only have till like Saturday to get this monthly deal.

I have the same Telkom deal in my phone from when they ran it last year, no issues.

That's traditional data price. I can get 2GB for R24 on Mo' Nice, x 5 + R24, that's 12GB for R144. Yes they're not permanent, but there's always "worthy" deals on.

Edit: besides the admin of buying one every week.

FWIW, just note that dealing with contracts at Telkom can be a hair-raising experience. Once you decide you've had enough, cancelling will be a nightmare.

Sounds quite flaky (as in very flexible) and indeed admin intensive, while sometimes one just wants a low admin, guaranteed and boring thing.

Almost all the cancellation issues reported and complained about here on MyBB revolve around landlines. Mobile is easy peasy, I did it in August.

Interesting. Cancelling my landline in 2016 was so awful that, while I'm a fairly happy prepaid mobile customer, I've passed over two or three good-looking monthly deals just because of how horrid the cancellation was. The news coverage it got a couple of months ago put me off even further.

But YMMV I guess.

Well, I just submitted the cancellation online, with a months notice period selected, they contacted me and they said they can cancel it immediately if I want, I said yes, and they did and even gave a me a credit on my next debit order.

are these mo nice deals still available. a quick search doesnt pick up anything

showing me 750megs and then next 4.5GB at R50. valid 30 days

i dont mind the 4.5GB being valid for 30 days. to me 5 GB is more than enough. so 11GB per month is over kill. and also i dont need the router. so 4.5gb at 50 bucks on prepaid or 139 on contract...

because its in a router, im assuming i would have to take it out and put it in a phone and top up, then back in a phone. so much headache. couldnt they just offer the same terms on contract!

just called telkom. not very helpful but i got the info i needed. the mo nice offers are available monthly. so they also change monthly as well. i would have to get a sim, load airtime and then once a month put the sim into a phone and buy the mo nice bundle.

You weigh up the options. Unfortunately only way to access Mo' Nice is via USSD (so unless you have an interface), but then as in your case you do that once a month.

Again, in 2 months time, those Mo' Nice deals may change, for slightly better, or slightly worse. But may be a viable option for now.

yea, thanks bond. i think il give it a try. these telkom data deals come around every few months. so il give this a go in the meantime.
