Afrihost ADSL performance problems addressed

Yes its the best ISP but then when I constantly get disconnected from EA servers in the middle of a gaming session...smh

Tested on 3 other ISP's on the same line no issues. So please Afrihost attend to this issue. I imagine it will be worse towards the month end when people try to finish up all their data caps.

Another month another capacity issue from Afrihost.

This has to be the 3rd or 4th time this has happened since the move to MTN and every time you just get told to please be patient and wait for the new capacity to kick and we promise we ordered more than enough so this wont happen again.

Not that they care but they will never see my ADSL business again.

Curious, I wasn't aware of any issues. Everything working swell in the southern cape for me.

A couple of friends of mine who moved to Mweb a while ago are looking to run back to Afrihost again, as they've been having atrocious speeds for weeks.

Thanks you to the AH directors for finally having the gonads to give us an ETA

Maybe they could, um, like make some mention of it on their homepage too perhaps ?

Afrihost said that it is aware of the ADSL performance problems in the “South region”, and is awaiting additional capacity to be installed to address the issue.

Many Afrihost ADSL subscribers, especially uncapped users, have been complaining about poor speeds and high latency caused by network capacity constraints.

Maybe perhaps also NOT request endless tracert loops diagnostic tests then too from clients in these areas and mention, that, maybe, perhaps, like, there just might be an issue and save these clients the aggravation of pointless troubleshooting and support denials.

But who doesn't enjoy running a good ol' trace route?

Yes, I agree that AH management has been handling this problem like a bunch of headless chickens. Maybe we should cut them some slack though, they're trying to get it fixed ASAP. Besides, I've grown tired of complaining.

Damnit ... I have spend 2 WHOLE DAYS fighting with Telkom because my ADSL line and then my exchange was blamed for rubbish AH Business performance. 5 gazillion tracerts and diagnostic results, posted in the thread and also PM'd to AfriGuy.

I have had my router reset, my modem reset and reconfigured.
I have had to run a cable into the modem and test with this (which is a mission) rather than wi-fi, as my router might have been the suspect.

ALL this could have been avoided if some truth had been dispensed at the start of this run-around hoop-jumping fusterkluk.

/meh

But it was repeated again and again that there were no problems and they could not replicate this their side and that everything is just gosh-dandy-wow-and-afri-awesome! and they are providing just the best experience for their Afripeeps!

I also now am subscribed to other ISPs and have been topping these accounts up just because the AH Business account has been unusable with, oh, nooooooooo problems reported or confirmed by any of the AH reps... it was all my end and everything was just hunky-dory-amazingness with them.

What package have you got and where in the South are you located. I'm 750 m from a new DSLAM and get p2p downloads of about 20 kB/s?

South Cape. 4mbps Uncapped. (Not business)
I don't expect to download anything during the day much, although I did do some steam updates this morning which all went through at full line speed. (I usually only run those at night too, so as not to bend over the connection during office hours.

At night, automated downloads have been cruising along swell - this month's tally is on par with every other month.

I don't rely on P2P all that much though. There are faster alternatives to get hold of the latest distros.

Come on. You really enjoyed running all those tests and bunging up the thread. Admit it.

I got the same run around. I am on the 8mbps Business uncapped package. I rue the day I moved from Openweb. The Afrihost techies keep closing my calls without telling me, have made no attempt to even try resolve the problem, and take days to get back to you. Customer service is non-existant. I am tired of being told "its your ADSL line quality Sir" when Openweb works flawlessly on my so called shyte line. Grrr.

I used to have similar issues with business uncapped last year, but after quite some extensive support interactions a MTN problem was identified as the routing cause in that specific scenario and performance has been ever since. Not very obvious to me is "What/where is 'South region'"?

Where exactly is this "South Region" that Afrihost refer to.
We are all South - South of the equator.

Is this South JHB?
Is this South Coast of Durban?
Is this Southern Cape?
Is this South Africa?

Those parts of the Western and Eastern Cape provinces that connect to the internet via MTN/Afrihost's Cape Town IPC. So the Southern parts of South Africa.
