Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback - 2

Yay! I am leaving Afrihost for good on almost all their services in about 2 weeks time. Going to a non-Telkom ISP on a business package.

I am happy that I don't have to deal with evident terrible service as per above. It costs a person / business more money to call Afrihost support / accounts because the other options are just pointless because they rely on the ClientZone / Live Chat app - how are you supposed to use it when the speeds / connection is pathetic?

I remember going through this type of service and support issues with DSTV. I then proceeded down the CPA / ECNS laws and I got a refund of R3000 odd because of non-delivery and breach of contract. They even ended up paying for the calls that I had to make to their support centre more than 5 times in a month.

So @ MaxST I would recommend going down that route if you get no joy and go to ISPA as well.

I used to promote Afrihost to my clients but not anymore!

These results could indicate a bigger problem on the local hardware, do you have a traceroute I can look at?

Okay so its a bit better tonight, but still very sluggish compared to business hours. PING IS THROUGH THE ROOF!
How I see it now is Afrihost is a cat with 9 lives, every day with slow speeds is a life lost until I get a new cat ;)

Also very high, and what looks like erratic, latency :(
Was it OK earlier today?

A bit hard to tell off the bat, but it looks like the latency is being introduced at your exchange.
Does the Telkom guest account show the same latency?

Can I ping the same account on the telkom guest account? I am forever doing tests with no actual resolution to my problems.

It won't show results on the 3rd hop, but it should show latency to the 2nd.
A speedtest done here can also show some good results http://capetown.spdtst.saix.net/

Did another test on my Afrihost account, using the link above

How can the latency be so high, its always been around 30ms??

Yes it's fine during business hours but around 17:00-19:00 it slows down drastically, since we use this at home but for business purposes it's the most crucial time of the day for it to be working. I have a feeling not enough capacity was added to the IPC upgrade...

Ai ai ai, I can confirm that the north is still having some issues. This is actually worse than before the upgrade as I could at least game. Now my pings are sky high!!

I am curious as to what has happened the last 2-3 days. I am running on a 2mb uncapped business and service has been great.
However speed has been very unreliable the last 2 days. I had one of Afrihost's support on the line yesterday evening after work.
Resynced the port, tried different dns.
We tried his test capped account and the Speed tests were perfect. This eliminates my line as the issue.
The moment I am back to my account, the sporadic nature and up and down speeds rears its ugly head.
I tried running speedtests to various spots around the country and results were anywhere between .70 mb - 1.5 mb
whereas usually I would hit 1.75-1.80 and keep it pegged. Something is not right.

It's even worse than before. Either there was no upgrade or it's not enough.
