Did another test on my Afrihost account, using the link above

How can the latency be so high, its always been around 30ms??
Yes it's fine during business hours but around 17:00-19:00 it slows down drastically, since we use this at home but for business purposes it's the most crucial time of the day for it to be working. I have a feeling not enough capacity was added to the IPC upgrade...
Ai ai ai, I can confirm that the north is still having some issues. This is actually worse than before the upgrade as I could at least game. Now my pings are sky high!!

Definitely looks to be an issue on our side. Demand was at peak at this time in the North. Will report these stats to our team working on this![]()
I am curious as to what has happened the last 2-3 days. I am running on a 2mb uncapped business and service has been great.
However speed has been very unreliable the last 2 days. I had one of Afrihost's support on the line yesterday evening after work.
Resynced the port, tried different dns.
We tried his test capped account and the Speed tests were perfect. This eliminates my line as the issue.
The moment I am back to my account, the sporadic nature and up and down speeds rears its ugly head.
I tried running speedtests to various spots around the country and results were anywhere between .70 mb - 1.5 mb
whereas usually I would hit 1.75-1.80 and keep it pegged. Something is not right.
It's even worse than before. Either there was no upgrade or it's not enough.

EDIT: Speed has worsened since previous post this evening

FFS Afrihost, its 23h24 and speed is 190KB/s on a 10Meg Bus account!!!!!!
Guys, this is totally unacceptable.
Speeds fluctuate between 19KB/s and 8 Meg (If I am very lucky) during the day as well as at night.
I am really starting to wonder if Afrihost will ever get their act together.........It’s been 3 MONTHS of this bull***.
How much longer do you guys need to get your act together???????????????
From the traces you posted earlier that latency definitely looks to be outside of our network.
Telkom are doing big upgrade rollouts before the network freeze in December. We're seeing quite a few exchanges under maintenance at the moment (my own home line included)
For the moment it seems like between 8pm and 9:30 we need to manage demand better to ensure better performance. I've reported this to our team and hopefully they can make further improvements to relieve the poor experience.
I registered with mybb just so I can also say - my 4 mbps business line is also a joke at the moment. I am also from the North.
After the IPC upgrade on 23 October 2014, my speeds were back to normal. Until Saturday, 26 October 2014 when it was crap. Phoned the call centre, spoke to some people, did some speedtests, tracerts, port recreates etc. to no avail - my account was escalated to the Development Department for scrutiny.
On Monday, 26 October 2014, phoned in again and was given a username and password of the Afrihost employee to test out - speeds back to normal. So it was said the account is at fault and not my line. So my account was converted to a 4 mbps capped account until 1 November 2014, at which point it is to be converted back to a 4 mbps business account - thus giving the development department time to figure out what is wrong with the account (this was at the instruction of the supervisor). Thank you for giving me an alternative in the mean time.
Anyways, the account was fine for 24 hours - then speeds were crap again. One minute full speed, the next 0,3 mbps. Again phoned, did some tracerts, some speedtests, yada yada yada.
Last night, 29 October 2014, phoned in again as my speeds were at 1,31 mbps, did some speedtests, tracerts, and some more to be told that if my line drops again I must do a speedtest and tracert immediately and send it through. The Afrihost employee gave me his personal Afrihost email to do this - so that, and I quote, "Telkom has proof to sort out the line, otherwise they just close the query". I was also offered to have my line synced at 3mbps as there may be lots of congestion at the exchange which is causing the problem - I am a newb at this, so I don't know if that is possible..... Anyways, I respectfully declined and said that I want what I am paying for (4mbps) and would like it to be sorted out.
Also, yesterday, between 11 am and 1 pm, I sent numerous emails asking for help showing speedtests etc and got replies at 22:57 and 23:05 saying that my port has been recreated and stablised and they have tested my line and there weren't any sync issues........
I haven't done any more tests after that - I am too scared to and too frustrated to.
I have only been with Afrihost for 5 months and my line has been awesome, for the most part - but since the iOS update and IPC debacle, my account has gone to s***.
And while this is all happening, the Afrihost Test App (downloaded from the website), never works. And, when I do a "Test My Line" on CZ, everything shows up green and is hunky-dory and "copacetic".
I am sorry to be so blunt Afrihost, but this really is getting out of hand.
You say you want us to help you troubleshoot, which I have been doing for almost a week now, but nothing is happening.
I didn’t phone or email to complain during the iOS update and IPC debacle, as on mybb, Afriman (or Afriguy – not too sure which one) said that it is difficult to pick up problems due to the capacity issues. Once the capacity have been sorted out, it will be easier to pick up individual problems.
I am a very patient person, and am giving you guys the benefit of the doubt, but please understand, my patience is not endless – at some point it does run out. I am sure you can understand this.
And have read every single page of the Afrihost Business Dsl Review (both part 1 and part 2), and there are LOTS of people having the same problem as me. Surely this shows you something? Or am I wrong?
I realise we all have individual experiences as we are all in different areas etc etc etc but if so many people are complaining about the same thing, doesn’t that indicate something is up?
As I said, I am a newb, so maybe I am pulling at straws.
I really don’t know anymore.
Interesting, as the speeds this morning before 07:00 were fine, and then crap again. If it was Telkom doing work which I doubt, then surely it would not be 100% and then almost zero. I called Telkom and they say their is no work being done in my area or anywhere that would affect my speeds. Next excuse?
If you're getting latency before our network, it can't have anything to do with us. It wasn't an excuse, but a suggestion that Telkom may be working in your area. All the symptoms you mentioned point to congestion at your exchange. If you really want answers, you'll need to check with Telkom.
Sounds a lot like shaping/throttling...
Afrihost manage my line, therefore aren't you suppose to chat to Telkom on my behalf?
