Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback - 2

You have Mail. :)

Replied and tests sent with. Looks pretty normal. Hoping there's no issues with my own account. Would you be able to fix it if it's only linked to my own account?

Since my Business Uncapped account should perform exactly the same as that capped account that you sent.

Yes, Business should perform very similar to a capped account, depending if you have matched your product exactly to line speed and sync, etc.

Yep, well every couple of seconds, and this then causes ping spikes in BF4 and some kakka lag.

If you can make a note of the times this happens, we can check if there is corresponding high demand on the network so we can have our team investigate into whether we are managing latencies effectively :(

Our reports are showing performance in the North should be stable. I think we'll need to troubleshoot why you are experiencing poor speeds. We've seen the guest account show misleading info, so we need to do more methodical tests to see why you are having a poor experience.

Your reports are clearly as misleading as SAIX's speedtest results, then.

This was via Wifi on my phone at 7:40am this morning:

And what I am currently sitting with:

Clearly there is a major issue somewhere and I am actually very sad I did not cancel this account before the 25th.

What tests do you want done?
Who must I send them to?
How long is this going to take to sort out as it is now going for the third month and it is NOT a line fault. Line has been checked and this is an Afrihost issue.

Drop me a PM and we can discuss this.

Switched over from AH to another provider on the 25th... my speedtest on our 10mbps ADSL line this morning:

Last Result:
Download Speed: 12868 kbps (1608.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 696 kbps (87 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 21 ms
2014/10/31, 8:44:32 AM

Lovely!

Mind to share, need to find a new Isp

I'm concerned that you've been having this extreme experience for 3 months, which predates our capacity issue. Also, although we're still adjusting the North for best performance, this seems like it could be a different issue.

Have you done any troubleshooting with or have any tests results I can look at?

Hi AfriMan
Herewith test results:

speedtest OK 30Oct14 12h04.jpg
trace OK 30Oct14 12h06.jpg
speedtest NOT OK 31Oct14 12h36.jpg
trace NOT OK 31Oct14 12h38.jpg

The top two are indicative when the account is performing as it should be.
The bottom two are when the account was miss-behaving a short while ago.
The account seems to bounce up and down between the above test scenarios.

Interesting that you mention this. Mine also seems to have spikes of performance for a few minutes, and then crappy for a few minutes, then back up again, etc.

Interesting thing I noticed regarding your 2 traceroutes - one has quite a few hops more than the other, but to the same address. And the one with the most hops is the one during the slower time. Any ideas why that could be?

How often are you seeing these spikes in latency and speed? How often is this happening? And have you noticed a time of day when this is more prevalent.

Finally, could you send me a PM with your ADSL account username.

I would like to hereby confirm that our IPC Network upgrades in the South are now officially online and running. Our users in the South should see improvements in their connection speeds as well as latencies.

Thanks for the confirmation AfriGenie, when can we expect this capacity to make a visible difference?

You should start noticing the increased speeds almost immediately, it will take some time for the full performance to normalize again, but this shouldn't be more than a few hours.

There is no specific time, this is happening all the time. Testing now and it is still happening

Could you quickly send me a PM with your ADSL username, I want to check something on my side quickly.

It happens on a random basis - like now, at 18h14 - was sitting on 250KB/s for a few minutesit then shoots up to about 700KB/s and then bounces down to 365KB/s.
Will send you a PM with my account username

I have received your PM, thanks!

@AfriGenie

Did you get my PM's? Got no response from you as yet.

Anyway, to follow up on that last mail: No stuttering on streaming for last night and this evening, 3 hours worth in total. As soon as I move back to my own Business Uncapped account, stuttering and stuttering and stuttering and stuttering and stuttering and stuttering.

Give me a capped account and top it up or something, I don't care. I'm moving back to your capped account until I get a response.

Been having similar issues to a number of these gents for a while now. Especially noticeable is the erratic latency to game servers. I'm located in Pretoria area and am on a 4 mb business uncapped account. Speeds vary from full speed to less than half. This is most often (but not limited to) during late afternoons/evenings, but also weekends.

Pings to valve's game servers in johannesburg and cape town jump between normal (20-50ish) to several hundred ever few seconds making it unusable. Peaked at 1000ms + this evening to dota 2 servers.

Streaming vid goes to hell when this starts as well. Never had to cache anything but the most hi-res videos on this account, but now having to cache anything more than 380p when it starts acting up.

I've been largely happy with this product, until this month (October). It's all well and good telling us that your tests are showing that everything is working as it should, but it's fairly obvious by the rapid expansion of this thread in the last few weeks that there are problems that need sorting out. We're all used to the occasional hiccup in the network, this is Africa after all, but it's no longer the case of a few days anymore. If this product is no longer going to work as advertised, then I suppose I'll go elsewhere again. Help would be appreciated, but I'm not waiting another month for this to get sorted.

I'm having the exact same issues with the business account... capped account works perfectly.

Capped:
Last Result: Download Speed: 8400 kbps (1050 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 698 kbps (87.3 KB/sec transfer rate) Latency: 12 ms 10/31/2014, 8:37:31 PM

Business:
Last Result: Download Speed: 1839 kbps (229.9 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 591 kbps (73.9 KB/sec transfer rate) Latency: 10 ms 10/31/2014, 8:44:08 PM

Been back and forth now with Afrihost for the last month.

All they do is "refresh" my account and say it could be a local problem or an issue on the exchange. Telkom has been out twice now.

Sick and tired of this crap now...

Here is an example of the amazing support i get:
We cannot find an issue with your Business account at the moment, but if your Capped account performs better, it is more likely to be related to a local issue as Business and Capped accounts are constructed from the same policies. We are however working on the network since our upgrade to improve overall experience on all accounts.
