Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback - 2

Probably blame Eskom now for the slow speeds. Streaming anything again this weekend was a disaster. Torrent s seems to be ok, but it looks like that is all Afrihost is good for.

I had a reasonably well-seeded torrent of an old TV show downloading overnight and it only chewed through 452MB in about seven hours. Testing this morning, I can't sustain anything above 30Kb/s.

@AfriGenie

Did you get my PM's? Got no response from you as yet.

Anyway, to follow up on that last mail: No stuttering on streaming for last night and this evening, 3 hours worth in total. As soon as I move back to my own Business Uncapped account, stuttering and stuttering and stuttering and stuttering and stuttering and stuttering.

Give me a capped account and top it up or something, I don't care. I'm moving back to your capped account until I get a response.

Sorry about that. Will check with AfriGenie to see what is happening here.

Been having similar issues to a number of these gents for a while now. Especially noticeable is the erratic latency to game servers. I'm located in Pretoria area and am on a 4 mb business uncapped account. Speeds vary from full speed to less than half. This is most often (but not limited to) during late afternoons/evenings, but also weekends.

Pings to valve's game servers in johannesburg and cape town jump between normal (20-50ish) to several hundred ever few seconds making it unusable. Peaked at 1000ms + this evening to dota 2 servers.

Streaming vid goes to hell when this starts as well. Never had to cache anything but the most hi-res videos on this account, but now having to cache anything more than 380p when it starts acting up.

I've been largely happy with this product, until this month (October). It's all well and good telling us that your tests are showing that everything is working as it should, but it's fairly obvious by the rapid expansion of this thread in the last few weeks that there are problems that need sorting out. We're all used to the occasional hiccup in the network, this is Africa after all, but it's no longer the case of a few days anymore. If this product is no longer going to work as advertised, then I suppose I'll go elsewhere again. Help would be appreciated, but I'm not waiting another month for this to get sorted.

We are definitely aware that there is still more work to be done to get all our products working as they should now that we've got additional capacity in all three regions. It may take us some time to work out all the kinks, but we also need to start troubleshooting issues and not assuming that each bad report or post means that the network is falling over. Without proper testing, it doesn't take us closer to what we all want, which is the network giving everyone a really great experience.

I'm always available on PM, and we can get this started to find out why your experience is poor.

Monday morning in Cape Town AFTER the upgrade, and all international speed has gone to ****....

How much longer AH?

Starting to really work on my nerves! Have a business to run, need to DL backups from remote servers (SSH/SFTP) and speeds AGAIN seem to be limited to 300kB/s - this on top of the fluctuating and erratic behaviour of the account. It now happens at least 8 times an hour that there is no throughput while connected, and NO, it's not my line.

Not good:

Looks like your exchange is buggered.

I'm having the exact same issues with the business account... capped account works perfectly.

Capped:
Last Result: Download Speed: 8400 kbps (1050 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 698 kbps (87.3 KB/sec transfer rate) Latency: 12 ms 10/31/2014, 8:37:31 PM

Business:
Last Result: Download Speed: 1839 kbps (229.9 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 591 kbps (73.9 KB/sec transfer rate) Latency: 10 ms 10/31/2014, 8:44:08 PM

Been back and forth now with Afrihost for the last month.

All they do is "refresh" my account and say it could be a local problem or an issue on the exchange. Telkom has been out twice now.

Sick and tired of this crap now...

Here is an example of the amazing support i get:
We cannot find an issue with your Business account at the moment, but if your Capped account performs better, it is more likely to be related to a local issue as Business and Capped accounts are constructed from the same policies. We are however working on the network since our upgrade to improve overall experience on all accounts.

We routinely test our Capped and Business accounts, as well as Uncapped, for any possible issues.

I think the idea is that we need to do full troubleshooting with you to ensure that there are no local network issues present, what could be common amongst yourself and other clients experiencing this. Are you using the same DNS or even router model (on which firmware version), which exchange and what diagnostics are being run.

Even though a few people have posted a similar experience here, I don't believe there is enough evidence as yet to assume the Business accounts are poked. It may be the case, but we'll need to gather more evidence in order to effect any kind of action.

No comment bro.... not sure if anyone that side knows what they doing. You go through all the effort of doing tracerts and speed tests etc and then you get an answer like that.

We do appreciate the effort that you went through. Sometimes it does take a few rounds of testing in order to determine exactly what could be at fault. To simply put it down to the network or product does not give our team enough information to properly address the issue. Also, when we can't replicate that issue using our own accounts, we need to go step by step with you until we can isolate what could be behind this.

Lol, to all those that canceled, are your accounts still working? Got a mail saying that my account is now deleted but it still works. Ironically its the first time in weeks that I get decent speeds. LOL

That's definitely not how it should be. Your account should have been discontinued at midnight on the 31st. Are you maybe not connecting with a Free GB account or another product?

Last Result:
Download Speed: 2401 kbps (300.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 405 kbps (50.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 66 ms

Same account ....

Are you still working with our Critical Care team. Looks latency is still to high for local tests :(

There are no local networking issues on my end. I have done all the necessary troubleshooting on my side and Telkom have been out twice.

It cant be a router problem as the capped account on the same router performs fine (and you guys said it yourself s, the business and the capped accounts are made up of the same policies) These problems only started when you guys started having "capacity" issues. Stop looking for excuses and find the problem. Its been over a month now of back and forward.

If i had known it would not have been resolved by the end of the month then i would have switched ISP's but i decided to give you guys the benefit of the doubt.

Also remember you are not dealing with idiots here... most of us are very tech savvy... and most of us work in the industry.

Afrihost is going to lose a lot of customers if they don't sort out their network. Many people I work with recommended I join Afrihost - those same people are now looking at leaving.

We are definitely working towards ensuring the best experience for all our clients. From our current reports many clients are not experiencing what they were prior to us having any capacity difficulties, and we're working with as many clients who are to improve their experience.

Like I said, we do need to look at similarities between reports of this. Maybe the best would be to drop me a PM for now so I can look at the tests you've already submitted.

All the similarities are business accounts... I have noticed though, that most of the business users having these issues are in Pretoria.

What is the difference between the business and capped ? i would start there because capped is fine... business is crap.
