Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback - 2

All Youtube traffic will be routed through the local Google cache. The exception to this is if the content that you are trying to view is not currently available on the cache or is still very new.
 
Everything is slow, what's the problem this time?

Hey what line do you have?
I'm 4mbps business uncapped and the youtube buffering has really gotten worse over the last few months.
Last year when we switched to Business uncapped I was able to easily stream 720p. after some time it started buffering and switched to 480p. that also started buffering a few months back and I went down to 360 for all videos.
Well this last week I literally cannot even stream 360p anymore without buffering.
when I leave Youtube to adjust itself, it stays on 144p:(
I'm not even kidding but it literally buffers on 144p here and there. WTF :confused: just trying to gauge what others are getting?

I have noticed that I haven't gotten anywhere close to 4mbps on tests for months now.
Even after the upgrades this is about the fastest result I've had in a VERY long time

Last Result:
Download Speed: 3289 kbps (411.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 413 kbps (51.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 21 ms

The line statistics on the router is better than ever. 13.7db SNR and 43db attenuation. When we just got business uncapped these stats were worse than now. Not by much but about 2db worse on SNR and attenuation was at 48db. We even had a crappier router.

That doesn't sound cool at all :( Your line and account is definitely capable of more than 144p.
Is YouTube the only streaming service that you're seeing is slower than usual? Any traceroutes that I can look at?

All the Capped accounts will have the same profiles, I think we'll need to take a deeper look into what's causing the issues here.
Could you pop me a PM with your info so I can get this escalated for you?

Facebook buffer on HD, IMDB buffers even on SD, Vimeo buffers just a little on HD.
Everything else seems fine. Downloads are fine, etc. but streaming has just gotten worse and worse since we got Business Uncapped. We were very close to being able to stream 1080p. At times during office hours or I assume when the network was quiet, we'd be able to stream 1080p for a quite a few seconds. 1080p buffered less than 360p now.
Until last week, we were able to stream 360p on youtube while downloading at 150kB/s (speed limited) and absolutely no buffering. Any higher than 150 kB/s and it started buffering. Now it buffers every 5-10 seconds with no other activity on the router.

Amazing how after the so called network upgrade the speeds are exactly the same as they were before, absolutley pathetic.

Download Speed: 1701 kbps (212.6 KB/sec transfer rate)

Can't see anything glaringly wrong with the test results here :(

I can't exactly remember, but I seem to remember you seeing high latency on the exchange?

I spoke to Telkom about the 2nd hop and there is no exchange issue. I went to a friends office who connects to a different exchange and they also get the timeout on hop 2nd, and they use Telkom as their isp.

General browsing just seems extremely slugish, sites like news24 take long to open etc. Even this site is slow to load.

Well my internet has just gone to s***.
3.6 mbps at 4:30 pm and degraded to 0.9 mbps at 6:40 pm. All this on a 4 mbps business line. Will try do some tracerts to post.

Not looking too bad, you shouldn't be seeing such a massive dip in throughput.
Was it still so slow when you ran these tests?
