Speeds really crap in Cape Town today...
Line is limited to 4Mb speeds, erratic/up and down, and latency very high.

WHAT IS GOING ON AH?????
WHEN ARE WE GOING TO SEE THE EFFECTS OF THE "EXTRA" CAPACITY????? 3 MONTHS AND COUNTING........

Definitely not great, but also concerned that your local ping is so high. Have you run any traces I can look at?

on my business uncapped, 1 gig capped and axxess 1 gig capped account I am getting no NNTP and torrent connectivity. This is my trace route for all 3 accounts

That's pretty odd. The second hop is on Telkom's network, even though it is labelled MTN Business. The route essentially means you are not leaving Telkom's network and it could mean that there is a routing issue on the exchange or BRAS.

Can you drop me a PM with your details? We can definitely log with MTN to chase up with Telkom. Just need all the tests you've run and your username and DSL line number.

Anybody in Bloemfontein with AH business uncapped? Want to give it a try. Telkom Internet is the worst POS ever. Only works from midnight till 7AM. Trying to do anything outside that timeframe on their softcapped package is like pissing into the wind.

Streaming AGAIN A BALL OF S H I T!

Traceroute when it was working fine:

Traceroute when it's crap:

Difference - hop 3. When it's working fine, it's going to ipc-recieve-rb-1a.za.mtnbusiness.net [41.181.178.53]. When it's useless, it goes to ipc-recieve-rb-4a.za.mtnbusiness.net [41.181.178.89]. Note the ping being inconsistent on the ****ed one.

WHY does it change when it's working fine on the first one, and why have you scientists not determined that in the previous 3 weeks I've been waiting for feedback?

REALLY pathetic. You guys should not be paid to deliver ISP accounts. Your tech support always just wants to recreate the port, but have no insight beyond that.

We'll definitely look into the differences in the traceroutes. It could be coincidence, so we'll need to troubleshoot this further to find out whether there is a correlation to the path you're traffic is taking and the performance.

Drop me a PM please :(

There is an outage in Bloem on the Telkom network at the moment, looks like a major network node is down. Might be why you're down :(

If the issues have been there for longer, drop me a PM so we can chat about moving over to us :)

Afriman
I sent you PM's earlier - see "Continious problems on my 10Meg business account"
trace NOT OK 10Nov14@11h20 bus acc.jpg
Speedtest shows 4.77Mb/s speed which is rubbish - If you look at Networx portion of the attached pic you will see speed is consistently much, much lower.
There is no point in providing you with stats using my free 1Gig Afrihost capped account as this shows full speeds (I have in previous emails earlier today provided stats on the free capped account).
Please sort my account out - it is quicker for me to use carrier pigeons than mu 10Meg buss account - I have also sent you my login details in PM sent to you earlier this morning

All this after having near PERFECT performance this weekend until 09:30 this morning.... now it's getting worse with every passing moment :(

On your first trace the latency appears on the second hop. I think this is intermittent congestion, so it's appearing at other points in later traces. However, for it to have appeared so early suggests it's not on our network :(

Today I had issues connecting to Battlefield 4 servers and my little brother couldn't chat to his friends on Teamspeak. Ordinarily, this all works fine without any issue. Today, only switching to WebAfrica capped works. Sometimes the BF4 server would return a generic error message and tell me to check port 3569 UDP (or something in that range, didn't write that one down). Other times, it'd just fail to connect and tell me just as much, but provide no further details. Teamspeak just wouldn't connect no matter what I did, except for switching to WebAfrica on a dial-up account.

Tracerts and pings to both servers go through fine. Speedtests are fine. I have nothing blocking any outbound connections. Router rebooted, DNS cache flushed. If this persists tomorrow, I'll take it further. If it continues to persist, I may have to look into moving to another ISP. Thankfully, there aren't any other issues to report so far, though I haven't been dedicating any time to monitoring the connection quality.

We ran some updates over the weekend to update our traffic signatures, so this could have affected some services. As far as we can see the new updates are now running properly and services should be normal.

Cool, I'll give it a try later and see if any issues still remain. Currently my main one is that I'd like for those Telkom speed bumps to come now, not in January :P

Lol, I'm getting 30kb/s on my steam downloads 8Mbit "business uncapped", the things I want to say right about now would be rated R18. What a joke.

That's definitely pretty poor, since we're not shaping anything on Business. What other throughput tests have you run on downloads and realtime services?

Okay so checking the speeds again, and they're shyte. AfriMan, any news yet on my case as per the PM's?

We're still looking into this, but we don't really have any feedback as yet. As far as I can tell, there is no real commonality between those experiencing poor speeds, and in general Business speeds are good so it's not a universal Business issue :(

Not quite... What about the lack of throughput????
I can post the same from another ISP which proves it IS your network.
The truth is, as in other parts of the country, your upgrades have caused more problems than brought relief (as you guys have repeatedly promised in the past months).

Let me once again prove the point.... here you go:

....... and now?????

Cool, I'll give it a try later and see if any issues still remain. Currently my main one is that I'd like for those Telkom speed bumps to come now, not in January :P

I don't think they'll plan anything for this year, this late anyway. I know many people want 2Mbps to go up to 4Mbps and there were rumours, but I think Telkom have learned that these upgrades cause a lot of grief in the past when exchanges and DP's have not been upgraded. I think it's much better to give them a chance to upgrade their infrastructure in preparation for this first (which is hopefully what is happening). Maybe they're thinking we'll all be on fibre in a year or two anyway (which would be awesome).

South down the ****ter once again, Afrihost at its finest. Log tests, never get called back, Critical Care dont even know about your issue, wait forever to get through to telephonic support, online support always offline, the list continues.

I think going to multiple support channels is an issue. If your query is with Critical Care, they are giving you personal attention to get your issue resolved. Using a shotgun approach is going to get you mixed feedback, possible some interim solutions offered by others who don't have your full history.

I'd strongly recommend to anyone who is with Critical Care for a query to direct all the enquiries via the person assigned to them in Critical (unless it's a brand new, entirely different issue). Once Critical Care have resolved the issue, then by all means go back to using regular support channels.
