AH, do you people not see how many customers are canceling and leaving? Something drastic needs to change.

Two people have cancelled their capped accounts within the last hour.

It will, Next month.

Telkom will give them a helluva lot more IPC for free - That's why they were playing these games with us.

You'll see next month, Everything will be magically fixed. Until the next round of course.

Can't even download a simple pdf document from Builders. Awesome.

Hey Afrihost. I need to know, are you guys really working hard to solve this problem? From where I'm standing, I'm utterly confused. Tonight, getting really bad internet experience, with speedtest on my 20 meg vdsl line at 8Mb/s with ping of 163.

So, what now brown cow? You guys need to come up with an answer, quickly, as I'm thinking the wool is being pulled over my eyes. I don't believe that you guys are actually trying to fix this problem.

Which downloads are currently affected?

Are you seeing increased latency as well?

yes but what is the point you don't have enough ipc so stop looking for the problem elsware
ah are like scaly salesmen with promises that they cant deliver on
man when you lie for a living you start believing yourself

ok so basically it's come to this; Afrihost has x IPC capacity. You can't say they have less than they need because their need depends on how hard they "optimise" or in simple English, throttle the **** out of everyone's accounts to "fit" into that x capacity.

So no, Afrihost doesn't lack IPC, they lack morals.

Afri* must be getting paid well to stick with all the PR hell they go through.

They already said they getting very little IPC extra, only the smaller buyers getting massive increases.

Yes, But the smaller buyers, Buy small amounts of IPC, So will make hardly any difference.

If you look at MTN B who buy like 15gbps of IPC capacity, Even getting 5% reduction will get 750mbps extra capacity. They're likely to get around 1 - 3 gbps extra capacity.

and then just add more people till the problems start all over again but we should be good for about 3 months
does anybody see a pattern here

Cant complain, youtube and a 1Meg account

2Meg sync, 1Meg account.

Not bad speeds at all for a 1meg account...

Maybe I might even move back to Afrihost once their new capacity comes in this next month due to the price reductions.

Are you having issues with your current ISP?

As a Telkom employee, I would have thought you'd have a better insight than us.

Telkom announced a price reduction, but the reality is the small IPC holders are receiving much bigger discounts (on the up to spectrum) and bigger IPC holders getting the from 1% range. Our network is one of the biggest in the country, so I think you can guess where we fall. Seeing as we've already done upgrades where we haven't seen significant revenue, whatever discount we receive won't even start to make up what we're subsidising to have as much capacity as we can afford.

Just to also clarify, Telkom is not offering double IPC for free. In fact, I'm not sure if the figure is definitely double, but in order to receive extra capacity it seems like ISPs will need to spend 15-20% more, which is a massive investment (as in millions of rands). I don't think many ISPs are going to be in a position to cut that check without doing some very careful calculations and projections and also being certain that they can attract significant new revenue to justify that expense.

I can see that your latency is a little high, and the time that you tested is when were we seeing peak demand on the South network (going by your traceroute). We saw demand drop off a little later than usual, only just before 11pm :(

I think you're upset and I can understand this, but let's not make it personal and do the name calling thing. It's just nasty :(

We deliver the information we receive, it's not like myself or AfriGenie are fixing the network or hitting buttons to affect your experience. We have faith in our time and we deliver the information as we receive it. If our technical team report tomorrow that the problem is X or Y, then that's what we'll report to you guys. We're definitely not part of a conspiracy to deceive the forum or our clients. It's often the reps here who petition management to look into serious issues and it was us who continually raise performance issues that arise here. So we're here to serve the community as best we can, and we're here as much to represent the forums to Afrihost as we are to represent Afrihost to the forum.

What I understand is that for the client base and the expected demand we have enough capacity at the moment. Would buying more IPC make everything go away? Sure. If we quadrupled our network, everyone would have a great experience, no Uncapped users would ever be shaped. I'd probably frying chips at McDonalds within a month or two (not to say that's a bad thing, got mad respect for the great work they do - I appreciate it often).

Ultimately we have to make some decisions based on financial factors, and I don't think I am being dramatic when I say that we literally pump in millions of rands to push through some decisions that don't make financial sense. Considering that is probably affecting our bonuses or pay increases, I'm happy they do it because without happy clients I can't send my daughter to school (or buy her those cute little crocs that light up when she jumps around). I think pretty much everyone in the company is dedicated to making our clients experience the best it can be any any means possible.
