Where are we now with the new POC. What is the +- Date for the testing and what is the current state of the network etc....

It is now week 2 of this issue and i do not think 2 more weeks will cut it. This has to get fixed this week

Would love to know as well...

I'm hoping to test GTA V on our network, as well as FIFA, Destiny, COD and any other titles I can. Hopefully, once we open up the network to clients, you guys will also be putting it through it's paces and drop us as much feedback as possible :)

Testing any of those is very subjective as online gaming relies even more on the state of your network than other services. So just because you happen to have done a test several months ago and then ticked it off, does not mean that it still functions.

A case in point (and you/your support is very well aware of it), is the "gaming hell" I experienced in May (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_TgzaZnnvo) where Destiny could not hold a connection for more than 5 minutes. A repeat of what happened in May, I experienced the last week. On Friday PSN was down due to a Sony outage (not your issue), but on Saturday morning I had the same disconnects as I video-shared in May, but here comes the eye-opener: I switched to Vox and no outages. Even better, my overall score improved dramatically as I had less lag and managed to get many multi-kills (which never happened on Afrihost) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zgFVBSIX--g

To show this in pictures (sorry for the size, but my Mac Retina seems to make everything bigger) - you can see that my K/D increased by 18% compared to June, just for Saturday/Sunday (ever since I switched to Vox). This is also visible in the progression chart - PVPed 1/2 July - not much progress, switched to Vox on Saturday and BLAM!, my score dramatically improved (this has nothing to do with skill, because I generally suck).

FWIW - while some might say "Uh, this is just gaming. Who cares?" - remember that the same quality of service has affected my VPN (frequent drop-outs with Afrihost and since Saturday morning not a single drop-out for the last 48 hours).

BTW: This is just a info post, as I cancelled AH on Saturday morning, but I think the above shows the true state of your network in a nice graph. Something a traceroute, speedtest or ping-test will not give you. @AfriMan/Afriguy: Ticket CUJ-293-60480 from Satuday is a prime example of how your support team (Bennie) should not interact with customers: If I log a ticket that says "Performance on PS4/Destiny is poor, frequent disconnects, please help --- it works fine with another ISP" and your support then asks "Run a traceroute", I get extremely frustrated. If you claim to frequently test AAA-games, my expectation is that you would have done this homework already. Even more frustrating is then when Afrihost gives me a Webafrica test account (yes, you read that right), to see if my performance is better.

At the moment, we've moved some of our internal staff over to the network to do stress testing and basic services. The network is using the same core profiles are our existing network, in terms of what is shaped and not shaped but by all accounts the results are positive. So far we've heard good things about overall speed and latency and also services like Twitch, YouTube HD, Skype, etc seems to be excellent.

Not sure when clients will have access, but the plan it to do that ASAP. I'm not sure which of the two POC's is being reported though, but since it's all positive, that's all good :)

Like I said, we are planning to test - so I 'm not reporting that those things are fine. Given the level of changes between our current network and both of the POC's, it's going to be a new experiencing built from scratch. So I think let's actually test before we give feedback - just seems to be a better approach.

Thanks but there is still 1 point left out. These 2 POC where are they running on and will this be the same performance as the "OLD AH MTN Network" Meaning Business Uncapped Accounts will still have great performance like it used to have before this all went to ****.

:)

To my knowledge we are keeping the product specifications exactly the same, so clients will have whatever they had before. We do expect increased efficiency in some area, and we may be able to able some improvements where we see fit, but nothing that will alter the nature of a unshaped product as advertised.

AWESOME :) Looking forward to this change. I just want to know AfriGreen and AfriBlue who are they through If you can disclose this please.

Since i am on IS right now WA and my performance is so bad.

Sadly I cannot disclose that info. Gian has specifally said he wan't that kept under wraps so that no-one is influenced by that knowledge when they report their feedback. You'll know from your username which one you are on, and that's about it for now. I know we'll definitely give all of the details of the one we choose, naturally. Not sure if we'll be able to give the details of the one that gets cut :(

The problem with your internal tests and your customer support is that you never experience any issues. I think everyone can relate here, that while consumers & businesses experience issues, Afrihost support staff will say "Send us a trace-route / No, I do not see that issue / No, everything looks fine", why do you think that this does not currently apply to your internal staff POC. I think usage behaviour as much to do with it, and if you have a guy on a 10mbps line updating his Facebook status, his internet connection will always be fantastic.

It's a different thing altogether, if you are in the middle of a production deployment / database upgrade via VPN and your connection drops. The one most concerning part for me is that I have seen that your network issues were not isolated to just consumer profiles - i.e. while other people had issues, my supposedly "prioritised" business account had the same issue - and this on prioritised services (VPN, SSH, SFTP).

We're opening up the POC network testing to clients too though.
I can say, that previous internal tests - the feedback has been good, both in terms of fixing bugs/ negative aspects as well as looking at the positive.

:(
What's your throughput like at the moment?

Direct download. Going at an average of 100kbps. At normal speed I get between 700-800kbps.

Looks a bit wonky here :( I'm confident this will normalise once demand eases though. We'll continue to do what we can though.

What about p2p and nntp?
