Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback - 2

My 8Mbit account usually runs at full speed, but today it's been crap. I had similar speeds to yours earlier, but it's improved a bit to around 6Mbps. I usually get 7Mbps on my line with any ISP, including AH.

Some people are obviously getting what they are paid for, many are not.

Something elle that is odd, and maybe an indication of the problem. If I log onto speedtest.net, the site automatically detects the closest test server. I am in Cape Town, but it finds Maseru as the closest. This seems to be linked to the poor speeds and the terrible streaming. It never uised to be like this.

Understood and i apologize for being crude. I am however not sorry for wanting answers.
Tell us what you are doing so that we better understand the process you are taking?

At the moment this is in hand with our technical team. It seems like we've seen some poor performance since our software was updated and we're investigating whether there have been any adverse effects. We've also been specifically testing with Business accounts based on the reports we've seen here in this thread.

When I have any confirmed info, I will report back here. I'm sorry I don't have anything more concrete to share right now, but I promise that this thread is being taken seriously and we are looking into as many of the reports as we can to improve the performance issues mentioned here.

I send you personal massages everybody have the same problem you tell me you coming back to me no reply sins Friday know you ask me about a ticket I give you my account an and Send you an email with my traceroute
I show where the problems are

No problems at local exchange

you have no idea how to solve problems Afrihost is a joke

I did receive your email (at least I'm pretty sure it's yours). From what I can see it's consistent with what others are mentioning, so we are in the process of testing with Business accounts and some Business users to get an idea of what they're experiencing and what commonalities might be giving them similar experiences.

For the moment, I think it's best if we give the technical team a chance to get to the bottom of this.

Whats the point in doing tests, sending pm's and no one gets back to you. You then contact support and get told you must not confuse anyone and Critical Care will get back to you. How long does Afrihost expect a person to wait, please give us a simple answer. We must be civil, we must wait and pay, but I see very little happening from an Afrihost side except for the standard support responses over and over again.

I think Afihost suffers from a few issues, poor communication, un qualified people in key positions (thats an assumption I am making on the time it takes to get any decent answers from anyone). What qualifications do the Critical Care guys have?

I think this goes both ways here, to be honest. It's easy to send out requests all over the place, to different departments and then say we're not communicating. We've asked several times that clients with Critical Care work with them in order to ensure you get the right feedback. They're in a different department to support and offer personal assistance with specific issues, which is not the same way that general support works. I think if you are creating the confusion, it's unfair to then turn it around and take no ownership of your role in that.

As far as feedback, I don't think I have ever not answered a PM in entire time I've been a rep here on MyBB, and I'm pretty sure the same goes for all the other guys here. Sometimes we may not answer instantly, but we do our best to assist wherever we can. If that's not the case, I would definitely like to know about it, and we'll make sure that doesn't happen. Our job is to serve the MyBB community, and I promise you that this is something we take very seriously.

I'll admit I don't always answer the emails I get very quickly, but I do get to all of them as quickly as I can.

I think making this into a personal issue is not going to be a fruitful exercise. Whether you agree with the qualifications or competency of our team, we have faith that we have the right people in the right roles (and we also know their proven credentials and track record). Bringing things to that personal level is only going to break down our relationship with you, and I would hate to see that happen. As they say, play the ball, and not the man.

That's pretty horrible. I know it's tough when you're not getting what you expect from the line. I'm confident that our team are going to keep hammering away at this, until they figure out what could be happening. I know this is a priority for all of us.

I somehow dont think the exchange is congested or its traffic at this time of the morning :p

What concerns me here is that your latency to your router is up to 20ms, where it should be less than 1ms, or max 2 or 3ms or WiFi. There is most likely a local network issue (like multiple services or users) on the network and the latency is intermittently compounded throughout the trace.

Hi Afriguy within the Boksburg/Johannesburg area, can't be exchange congestion.

It's hard to say. Remember that every area will have multiple exchanges, and it's possible that one can be congested while another close by is not. It depends on how many users there are, what speeds they've signed up for, their usage as well as the capacity of each DSLAM or MSAN.

If you can post some tests, like traceroutes, we can have a good indication of whether it's congestion or not.

Your IP is most probably not being recognised by Speedtest. It sometimes takes them a while to assign IP's they are not aware of. Also, remember that we are adding new IP addresses to our range continually. It may affect the speedtest in that it may choose a location closest to where it thinks you are (and that may be a slow server or a remote DC where the server is housed), but otherwise it won't really affect performance.

I had the exact same problem last night and at one stage the account went dead for 30 minutes. I could not authenticate and had to use another ISP account. I am on the other side of Cape Town to PurSpyk!!

This morning most things seem better, but I will wait till 09:30, as that is where everything went pear-shaped yesterday.

Clearly not looking good.

How to read a trace route. For those who wonder what the numbers actually mean.

http://www.inmotionhosting.com/support/website/how-to/read-traceroute

Very useful, thanks for posting.

To take it to the next level, it's also helpful to remember that the way that trace routes work is that they send out packets with a set TTL and number of hops, and then wait for the first router or server to respond. Some hardware does not, like the DSLAM, but what most people know as the 2nd hop, is still within the Telkom network, before being routed via IPC. It's not actually your exchange but it's a very good indicator of exchange performance.

Definitely not looking great. I know our guys are currently working on the network to improve performance, we'll be working with them to give them as much info as possible and get feedback from them as well :(

International seems to be a big problem at the moment.
