Yeah so on my 10M line streaming is capping out at 2M even with the above fixes so 720 buffers like ****. Gaming is a joke thanks to huge swathes of timeouts and latency spikes incidentally my latency has just bumped up by about 90ms to the exact same server. Telkom seems to feel that everything is fine Yet leaving WinMTR open for a while returns this http://i.imgur.com/7GuTRlz.png since Afrihost claims its not them and I get the same story with Telkom.... what the hell am I supposed to do!

Do a speedtest to a local server. Does it also cap at 2mbps?

But best for everything else as far as I can tell.

Doing tests with a test account to check my whole theory with the lack of traffic prioritization. Going to use a large intensive download whilst using an MTR in the background to see what happens.

So far I am seeing that ping is increasing by ~50ms. Might go higher when it's at a higher speed.

As you can see, there is a fair amount of packet loss.

FFS ditch MTN. Don't give a **** what you say about them, they are crap. Their network isn't suitable for a gamer let a lone a business environment. Constant problems with IPC, ping isn't great, there are always problems... Just... It's not designed for ADSL. It's for idiots who pay thousands of rands per month for gigs and gigs of 3G with 300ms ping to local servers instead of getting a phone line.

Your worst ping to your router was as high as 23ms, which is very unusual. Even over WiFi, I would never expect more than 2-3ms at worst. It could be something on the local network causing problems. The next hop is worse, but that could be a compound effect if there is latency on the local network. I would definitely start there by running of a clean system off a LAN cable and checking if there are no services using bandwidth in the background.

What a horrible weekend of VPN issues and latency all round. I actually switched over to my Telkom account and had a solid experience. I noticed this morning that AH is having IPC issues for almost 4 days.

In the past, when the second hop doesn't show it could be an exchange configuration, essentially the router at the BRAS is not responding to ICMP packets.

However, I see your worst response on the 1st hop was was 113 ms. That's already concerning, so maybe start with your local network and check for any background services eating traffic

okay, so 113ms on the first hop. 4699 on the third. That means something between there was responsible for 4586ms. Also, that 113ms happened once as I can see from my log (using cmd ping 10.0.0.2 -t >> router.txt). Rest is <= 1ms.
It's gotten better since last night, but it's still spiking like mad.

Not necessarily, latency compounds, so generally the first place where latency is spotted is where the problem starts. How much latency will be compounded is unpredictable, so it's difficult to say the hop in between is producing latency to any extent.

But it does seem like there could be massive latency on the second hop based on best and worse results, it's just really difficult to assume. But since we're not seeing general latency in your region (i'm guessing you're in the North) then I guess we can assume it's not on the network
