Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback - Part 3

It's entirely dependant on the exchange and what DSLAM cards it holds. I think it used to work that 4Mbps sync was handled by 4Mbps cards. I think it's just what's available now.

Thanks for the reply, this makes sense. When I am on a 10mbps connection things work relatively well and I can reach stable speeds up to about 6mbps; on a 4mbps connection I have a bad overall experience and rarely exceed 2mbps. Solution I guess is to upgrade to a 10mbps bundle, or go for a capped bundle.

That's a little strange though, in my experience downgrading usually results in a more stable, consistent experience.
What do your line stats do when you change between the two profiles?

My new speedtest today just did a quick TeamViewer Remote Desktop session in. 4mb Uncapped Business

Line always generally syncs at 6 or 7mbps. All other parameters are good.
I just know that when I log into a capped product, things stay slow until about 8am the next day when suddenly everything seems to reset and my connection starts flying. When I go the other way, from the capped to the 4mbps business account speeds can drop from a stable 5meg to about 1meg. The my broadband speed test shows the higher 5 meg speed running very smoothly, at the lower speed the throughput graph is jagged and all over the show. This is why I thought that I was physically being moved to another more stable physical port or something like that.

Ah I see. It may be doing something different at the exchange, pushed via a different card of sorts .

I am guessing so. And I am wondering whether congestion could actually be at the card level, in other words on another card there might be more surplus capacity hence the more stable throughput pattern. All just speculation on my part.

Thanks for your reply.

It definitely could be. If your line is better on a stabilised 10Mbps profile I'd keep it there :) Sounds like the exchange is a bit wonky.

Nothing is working again, how is a person supposed to actually earn an income if you cant do a simple thing and provide the service you are paid to provide?

Sorry to hear :(
I'm on my personal account and things seem fine. Are there any tests that I can check?

I just loaded up this video and I don't see any buffering on 720P at all.

What DNS servers are you using?

That video oddly enough plays fine, we use the OpenDNS, and always have, never had much issues until today. This is one video that does not play even on the lowest settings.

I have a 10MB line and therefore should not be having these continual issues with your network.

I've tested using our DNS as well as Google's. Could you switch around and test a few other videos please?
