Afriguy, Afrigirl, Afriman,

Could someone please tell me when my line will be working? I am currently paying for NO SERVICE. WTF guys? It has been a month now that I don't have an Internet connection that I can use!

NO feed back, NO nothing. Funny that not one of you answer any of my posts.

Really sorry to hear that you're not getting any feedback on this, and that you're paying for a service you're not getting.

Please drop me a PM, and let's find out how things have gone wrong and how we can fix this going forward :(

I pm'd AfriGuy and Girl on teh 18th. Till date not one peep. Still having the same issues. But you know what, I am tired of waiting. There are other ISP's that will happily take my money.

Account Cancellation Pending
We are sad to see you go, but wish you all the best for the future and hope you to see you again!
Cancellation Effective Date: Midnight, 31 July 2013

Apologies for that. Thought I had replied. Looking at your ticket, our team advised you to try sync your line a lower rate as your line couldn't maintain the 10Mbps. You never got back to them regarding the matter. Apologies, I didn't attend to your query sooner.

Just to say, since the packet loss episode, this account has been performing A+. And I appreciate that Afrihost gave me a free 3 month upgrade to 8Mb/s from 4Mb/s for my pains. Although, they will probably score from that in the long run, because I won't want to go back again.

We're really glad that we could solve this issue in the end. Sometimes DSL issues can take a while to untangle and find the cause, if we're lucky enough to have a single cause. But at the end of the day, when it's working well, there's nothing like solid internet at home.

Awesome :)

A Telkom techie came over today and replaced the filter on my line. And I changed my router DNS settings to the default Afrihost ones, and manually put the Unotelly DNS's into the devices that need them. Youtube performance is better, speed tests are good and I haven't needed to reboot my router for a while. Hopefully this will continue.

Well using non Afrihost DNS explains it all.
For normal performance you should go back to AH DNS after you have done using the Unotelly for Hulu, netflix and the sort.
You can expect degraded performance with those DNS services.

I don't need Unotelly on my PC, so I'll just leave the WD Live TV box set up with it. I'm actually rather impressed with Afrihost all of a sudden. Full bloody speed:

So much unnecessary suffering before now...

Must say I am really disappointed in Afrihost's service. After my parents had a lot of bad experiences with Telkom and eventually cancelled their home ADSL at the beginning of the year, it took a lot of effort on my part to convince my dad to order a All-in-one Business Uncapped 4mbps ADSL service from Afrihost for our home business. I based this decision on the good ratings received via Mybroadband surveys and the competitive pricing. Now Afrihost informed us that they cannot convert the line because Telkom claim we already have a ADSL contract on my parents account which is of course rubbish and non existent as they are not being billed for it and that we have to deal with the situation ourselves first before they are willing to assist us with the sign up.

Of course we only got this feedback from Afrihost after we escalated the the issue by phoning them as they providing no progress feedback whatsover and kept ignoring our support tickets. My dad of course refuses to deal with Telkom directly, which is why he wanted to sign up with Afrihost in the first place and get the ADSL line through them, so obviously he has cancelled his Business Uncapped account at Afrihost immediately. I expected better from Afrihost...

Sorry to hear this process went so poorly. While we deal with Telkom on your behalf, we are always subject to their internal processes, after all they still own the physical lines we are merely managing them to you on their behalf. If there is any kind of pending order, be it voice or DSL related, everything literally shuts down until that order is complete. The line cannot be transferred, upgraded or cancelled until Telkom close that order.

We do usually keep in touch with regular SMSs, but it can sometimes be hard when there is a protracted process due to Telkom beauracracy. I'd still like to look into this and see why there were no updates and why we didn't inform your parents of the pending order issue.

Can you drop me a PM?

LOL. Actually for example using OpenDNS is better.

Speeds are still awesome on Afrihost business for me. Even getting between 200 and 300KB/s on the PSN, which I've always known to have terrible speeds.

How is OpenDNS better? Went to their website and didn't see any servers in SA.
