Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

Afrihost is great when it works :) But I think with their pricing and mobile data they might have had to oversell and that is why we have these issues.

It's not that we have to oversell, we did plan for additional capacity, we just could not have predicted this unprecedented wait for the capacity we ordered last year. In this situation, our resources are much more limited than we had predicted. We definitely don't use this as our business model.

Thanks for clearing this up :) I retract my statement

The question however is, why is business uncapped being de-prioritized?

I don't think it's really being de-prioritized, but rather that even with all the shaping on the home accounts, there still isn't enough bandwidth to go around for everybody. Therefore, it's pretty much a dead-lock situation, 'cause something has to give in order to keep the network stable.

I don't think they are purposefully shaping or anything, but rather that the contention on the network is too high :/ Afriman should be able to correct any mistake I make :)

Shape home users

Agreed. That best effort crap is for the regular uncapped plebs like myself. If I was paying a premium like the business customers I would not accept the best effort crap either.

We steer away from the dreaded "best effort" phrase as much as we can. We do unfortunately get that in turn from Telkom so it does kind of pop up here and there.

We definitely always want to go further than our clients expect to delight them with remarkable service and a great experience. Best Effort is really not where we'd like to be :(

It has been, it's really the contention for bandwidth is much harder to manage with the limited resources we currently have. When Telkom fulfils our order, it's going to be a lot easier to give Business clients the experience they should be getting.

I just think that we should get priority as we pay for a premium account. It's bad when you skype with clients and they cannot hear you because of the connection being so bad.

You gave people free gigs and 2 for 1 topups, don't you think this adds to the contention?

Ok, maybe I spoke too soon. Last night at exactly 10pm, my account dropped to 1/10th of its normal speed.
4Mbps account - Speedtest shows 43kb/s down, 40kb/s up

All along I thought you guys just like to complain. Now I see why

That sounds a little odd. Did you run any diagnostics at the time? I know we are having some issues, but that seems a little outside of the symptoms we're seeing from IPC issues.

But then... In all fairness. When Telkom fulfills YOUR order (which, coincidentally has NOTHING to do with me) I will be paying you what you SHOULD be getting.

At this stage in the game we are paying in excess of 1k per month, for nothing more than a highly congested, highly contended ADSL service. Nothing better than any normal unshapped account we can purchase from any other ISP for a lousy couple of hundreds bucks per month.

If you CANT deliver on your high quality service, why MUST we continue to pay for this high quality service? ***** happens, Telkom screwed you, it happens all the time. Why must WE pay for it?

And as a static ip customer I should route through JHB IPC should I not? If I should be, why am I getting horrible speed?

Hey Afriman,

Nope, not really. Just made sure none of my wifi devices were downloading anything and also made sure my router was syncing at the correct speed.
I'll check later today when I get home from work (if the issue still persists)

Thanks :)

Is this like saying, there are too many users for the bandwidth available? If so, does that mean Afrihost kept on signing on new accounts without upping their bandwidth to keep pace?

hmm something is seriously ****ed

http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3398831179

10mb/s business uncapped, router syncing

WAN Physical Link Up. Upstream 1020 kbps Downstream 10236 kbps, DSL Type is ADSL_2plus

The ping will be high because of the static IP routing to JHB

Second test did not complete.

Yea, thats what its saying :/ However - Afrihost ordered new bandwidth last year october, when they saw an increase, however - Telkom has not yet fulfilled their order.

Also - in order to make sure the new bandwidth makes a difference, they have just placed an order for even more bandwidth than what was originally ordered.
