Were the two lines contending for the 10mb? 50/50? 10mbx2?

Doesn't work that way. Your limit is set on a per port basis, seeing that there are two independant ports in question here, they each will receive maximum speed either by the subscription package, or by the port (sync) speed.

Just for this record, I was not sharing. It was a test to see if PP had the same issues as I.

This, thankfully, isn't sanral. I'm sure no one will bite your head off for identifying a massive flaw in their system :D

Nope, my streaming, browsing affected his stream / browsing... did not scientifically measure it, but on my side, it showed about a 50% dive.

Oh crumbs, whooops.

A tad late for a not-so-ninja edit ??

Yes but remember, complaining is fine. Just complaining again, and again, and again, and again, and again about the same thing isnt. If people are paying for a degraded service, and don't like it - surely its better for them to leave than experience a bad connection, no?

Its a PITA to move lines etc...

Perhaps not... but I do recall this being quite boldly stated at the signup stage, that it was land-line locked.

These account should also be restricted to 1 concurrent connection;

This does not appear to be the case as either.

It also claims the following:

Unshaped, Unmetered
Everything you do on the internet will work at maximum speed. Browsing, Email, Downloading etc. will all be much faster and there's no need to worry about hitting your cap.

and again this:

Business Priority
These packages have prioritised bandwidth. That means NO Shaping, NO Throttling, just pure speed when you need it most!

So now you why we are all bitching and moaning :(

Eh? Not quite with you here...

I am also bitching and moaning about the current IPC issue.

I too have quoted the very same things you just have done, more than once, in this very thread, over the past 3 weeks.

That's why you should never give your line to your ISP.

You might have a lot to spend unnecessarily, but some of us would like to save that R200 - even if it means an extra day or two to get the lines moved over.

After 3 months of a tug of war with telkom I managed to get my line moved to a new exchange or something? I had a diagnostic running for ever on my homeserver that checks tracert pings and my first hop was always above 50ms. On Sunday telkom techie said he fixed my line, ever since ive had sub 15ms ping to my first hop since. And now AH business is running fine. Only issues are the normal issues, Twitch runs like crap and SuperSport cant stream to save its life. But those were all problems I had before and I blame those services for the problems

Point is.... the site says a lot of things... doesn't change anything, does it? Still have issues, still get crappy speeds, etc. :(

All we can do is wait ;)

That's quite alarming. I mean if people are sharing their business accounts with everyone at the bowling club, the church social, the masonic lodge and the local shebeen, its no wonder there is no capacity available.

It's very helpful to not have the account locked to one particular phone number, because you can then use the account to test the speed of other ADSL lines - if like me, you have more than one. I've got accounts with Openweb, Axxess and Web Africa and none of them are locked to phone numbers, so it's not just AfriHost.

Anyway, the important thing is that it's one concurrent connection only. i.e. Yes, you can share the account, but only one person will be able to use it at any giving time, so there really is no issue here.

This whole idea point of this thread is for clients to lodge complain ( and sometimes say thanks for great service.) So stop trying to shoot down peoples opinion's based on their experience. Some people's livelihood are at stake here. Some people here use business DSL for BUSINESS. Not just to NNTP and troll forums like some other people do....

I think you are forgetting that everyone is entitled to their opinion and this forum is used as a medium for that.

Sorry to say this guys, but there is no point in continuously complaining, seriously -_-. There's nothing locking you into a contract, if you don't like it.... Leave? Simple. If you say you've been getting sub-standard levels of service, leave? Why stay and complain about it? Also - bashing the reps and the company won't solve anything, in fact it just makes the situation worse.

And don't say you can't now because the month has already been paid for, you could've cancelled last month. No point paying for a service, knowing it's flawed, and then wanting your money back. Just remember, although the grass may be greener on the other side now, we are approaching winter.

And to some other users, if you need a static ip, go to Axxess? They too provide static IP's.

EDIT: And yes. I know you can say Afrihost made some bad business decisions. However they believed it wouldn't impact the network. Maybe they were wrong, yes. However, no point continuously complaining about it.

I can say the home accounts are locked to a number.

I gave my account away to another forumite but it wouldn't work until I contacted support with the new tel number that they had to replace with on their system.

Uhm... well, what the AH site actually says about this product is exactly why i chose this product.

If what they are saying about this product has zero relevance to the actual product, well then, something can be done.

Yep agreed. I use to have a home uncapped account. Tried to test it on my father in laws line and i had to phone to have the number on the line updated. So i can verify this as well :)

Hi

Not one concurrent connection.
Two of us using my single Business account ADSL login details, at the same time from two separate locations and two different telephone numbers is not exactly a single concurrent connection.

Well, the Business package signup process states the same thing... but, in reality;

Maybe an unadvertised new feature?

Guys, I wouldn't be too alarmed about more than one concurrent connection. Leave that to the OpenWeb clients whose accounts are being shared/sold twice...

Things are much more kosher at Afrihost, I can guarantee.

As i.got~issues said, there was about a 50/50 contention for the bandwidth. We could not each get full speed.

Just for this record, I was not sharing. It was a test to see if PP had the same issues as I.
I initially thought that there was no way he could log in with my account, he said it would work.

I ate humble pie.

He then said that we could both be online at the same time, from different locations, with my account.
Again "nonono, not possible" I replied.

I ate a portion of crow when I saw that he was in fact correct, again.

I declined any suggestions to post my humble pie and crow servings in the "What is for supper" thread, he did offer a recipe or two for this tho'.

I declined.

It does in fact show in the AH client zone, all the connections, dates and data against each telephone number using the account, so easy for a client to monitor.

:D

Waiting is the best bet for AFRIHOST. Not for its clients. And yes AFRIHOST comes out stronger. Mean while, customers are paying full price and getting 1/4 of the service. Afrihost is coining it while the customer doesn't get what they pay for, for several months.

Everything you just said sounds like company spokes person gimmick, but who can blame you. It's your job. I believe you yourself personally don't even agree with the service that's been provided whilst customers are paying full price.

Zertop is not employed by Afrihost - so I'm pretty sure his opinions are his own :)

We try to make decisions based on what's best for our clients, not based on our bottom line. Fact is we sell bandwidth based on what we pay for it, and sometimes for even less than what we pay. The margins we make are very, very thin, so there is very little room to manoeuvre. It might seem like we're getting paid more and delivering less, but the increased demand means that our real costs are increasing with our upstream providers, even though we're essentially billing out the same as we were. And those costs will only increase when we upgrade the IPC, so it's actually a huge risk on Afrihost, but we're willing to take it because we have faith in our clients. We know that our clients will also believe that we would not abuse their trust, or intentionally try to squeeze an extra dollar out of them by giving them a bad experience.
