Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

Wtf!? Afrihost can cancel someone's account without their consent because they hit a nerve?

This is beyond me.

That is ridiculous.

For shame Afrihost, for shame!

Agreed. And I think this matter should be reported to rpm. That is an abuse of this forum by Afrihost.

It's not something we do often, but at the end of the day any business relationship runs two ways. We always conduct ourselves professionally and courteously with our clients, I think it's not unreasonable to expect the same in return.

AfriMan: Irrespective! How dare you cancel someone's account for expressing his views on an open platform!? Yes, things get heated, people say a lot of crap on forums, things get taken out of context, BUT to cancel someone's account (which he has paid for) because he is unhappy with the situation and is making it publicly known? THAT, is another perfect example of how Afrihost doesn't give a crap.

I can understand that if he maliciously did something that affects the Afrihost network, such as bypass shaping (which business accounts apparently don't have), then you would have a right to cancel his account. Doing anything illegal on your network is grounds for cancellation and much worse. But this is not the case.

AfriMan: I have also said a few things that may have been taken out of context on this thread as a way of venting, are you going to cancel my account as well?

When I get home today, my account better still be active.

And the costs of your clients and businesses using your service loosing income? The small and micro SME that literally can close their doors due to the lack of adequate services supplied by Afrihost? That is insignificant I guess?

We're all tech savvy here (mostly). Personally, I would have no issues with being supplied a account, using OpenDNS/GoogleDNS, and being completely separate of your network. As a *temporary* solution, I see no reason why full integration is required at all. There's also no reason why SAIX/IS can't proxy AAA to your -existing- AAA servers, where you can simply re-write the realm name on your side, and your integration is completed. It's a 15 minute job, do you want the code? I'm not going to get into the technicalities of what can and cannot be done. I'm just going to say that I too, work with AAA, integration, broadband networks, etc. on a daily basis... I know what Telkom does/does not provide, and I know that technically there are very little, if anything required which Afrihost (or any significant ISP) would not have in place already.

The issue is that you're still looking at blue sky solutions whilst I'm suggesting hacks to keep your clients happy until the IPC is lighten up (there's a huge difference). Yes - I realize it's too late to do anything *right now* about this - point being is that it is something which could have, and should have, been done weeks ago...

That being said, I wish you all the best as a company, and I truly hope that you will not only sort out your IPC issues, but your company itself as well. Your network is appalling, your service is appalling, and you have pretty much lost every little bit of credibility you have left with me (and I'm sure allot of others too) after you've now started taking the actions of unilaterally closing user accounts, even though that there was no breach of service. If I was in jeanres' shoes, I would have fought you on every single front as long as I can, as hard as I can - JUST to make your life difficult.

MyBB != Afrihost, and you need to realize that very quickly. Next, you're going to close accounts because users blog about this saga? Or because they express their views on Facebook or Hellopeter? There is something like freedom of speech, and freedom of expression and the views that I, or others state in our personal and private capacity has absolutely NO bearing on Afrihost.

If you have a problem with what is being said on MyBB - take it up with MyBB. This forum is not owned by Afrihost. If you feel that we are slating or bad mouthing Afrihost, then stop giving us reason to do so. If you feel we are being unfair in our posts, take it up with the moderators - that's why they are there... If you *seriously* feel we are crossing the boundaries, take it up in a court of law. Simply terminating accounts for expressing views however is a very childish approach by Afrihost, to say the least.

If it was that simple, it would be something we would consider, but I don't think you really have an idea of the scale and impact of the changes you propose and the costs involved.

If we're being honest, I really don't see how this type of combative and aggressive behaviour benefits anyone. All it does it create animosity and at the end of the day it gets us no closer to our solution. It's easy to take pot shots at a company that can't speak back to you in the same unsavoury and sarcastic language. It's really just bad for business all around.

At the end of the day, if you are unhappy, you have the freedom to choose where you take your business. It only makes sense that any company can draw a line somewhere and say enough is enough. Our purpose here on the forums is to inform and to assist, not to get into mud slinging matches and try to out talk or out smart others. We give you the facts and you choose how you'd like to act on that information. It really should end there and not become a shouting match that lasts several hours (or now days in this case). Ultimately what you are really doing is drowning out the feedback of other clients who are wanting feedback on other issues, detracting from the real purpose of the thread. Much of this conversation could have been dealt in a PM, or avoided entirely so that other's can get the assistance or feedback they need on more pressing issues.

Freedom of speech and all that other stuff really has nothing to do with it. This about a relationship between yourself and your vendor. At the end of the day we all need to treat each other with respect and conduct ourselves with dignity. Sometimes there are challenges, and sometimes there are outcomes which one or both parties are not entirely happy with, but you continue the relationship based on mutual trust and respect. When that is lost, then the relationship is best ended for the sake of both parties. If your solution is to make other people's life difficult to get what you want, it sounds to me like the person who's really losing out is you in the end.

Note you said "I have the choice" to move, I did not make that choice.......

And it's not unreasonable to expect to get the SERVICE that you PAY for. That too, is a two way relationship....

Guys, this thread is for feedback from clients, it's not cool to take over the thread for your personal gripe with either myself or with the company. At the end of the day you've made your point, but we need to move on so that we can do what we're here to do. I'm happy to chat to anyone over PM. But I'm getting complaints from other users about what is happening here and a moderator has already gotten involved.

You guys need to either move on, or take this offline so we can actually sort this out.

Esquire like behaviour.

Seems more like a veiled warning to others really than a two-way corporate trust thing.

This is leaving a very, very, very bad, lasting impression.

No mediation? No appeal? No upper-managerial review?

Finish-and-klaar.

I'm sure you would love to take this offline. But now you have really blown it. There was no personal gripe. There is a whole bunch of us with the same gripe. And seriously, if you really want a moderator to get involved, just continue intimidating your clients.

I don't know if you read the same thread I have, but hell dude, I am not the only one moaning about the service.

Yes, this thread is for feedback, and we have given you our feedback. You are not happy with how our feedback came across and decided to start cancelling accounts.

All I can say is WOW, I am beyond shocked at how Afrihost has gone about this.

Wow, what bad taste from AfriHost. Really really pathetic actually. Tells you a lot of what they have become. No care for their clients!! Can't even try get your money's worth, they just do not care anymore. PATHETIC!!

It's not intended as a warning to anyone. But unfortunately it was clear that there was no way forward and this was the only solution.

I always believe that we do what's best for our clients, even if that sometimes means we have to assist them to move elsewhere. I honestly believe that this was the case here.

Was it? because I am even more annoyed now? And just to say that threatens every Mybroadband member to not express their views.

AfriMan: I hope you realise the backlash you are about to receive from the mybb community. Your decision to cancel jeanres account for expressing his views is not going to go down well.

I hope you are ready for what is about to come. It's still a little early, but expect to be hammered hard.

Good luck!

I dont see how this is an abuse of the forum. The 2 parties are in discussion about an ongoing issue that is getting heated. If the user is not happy with the product he can go somewhere else. Its his right as a consumer. It is also Afrihosts right as a provider as to who they deal with and as another user who came to this thread for an issue which Afriman assisted. I could see where this was heading. Afriman is here to assist with queries and provide us an extra level of 1st line support which he does. You forget this is 1st line support and you are not speaking to a director of the company.

We are told that there is an issue repeatedly and we are told by Afrihost management that the eta to this being resolved is the 10th of this month. How many more times must they say this

It is not your place to "help him move", it's his decision. If he wants to move, then he must do so on his own. If he wants to stay and "wait it out", while still expressing his views and concerns then thats HIS decision as well. Not yours and not Afrihosts.

Really, I cannot see how dropping a Business client of yours in more crap is helping someone out. He clearly had an issue with the product and needed some answers. Not just we have to wait for Telkom take it or leave it. He is paying YOU guys to deliver a service and he is not getting what he is paying for!! End of the story is you guys hit a low blow!! I am sure you would flip too if you have an issue with your car that you use to go see clients with, you pay someone to fix it and then it's not working correctly. Then you go to the mechanic, ask him to fix it now as you are paying for it! He tells you sorry there is nothing I can do about it we have to wait for the supplier to ship parts, but he cannot tell you by when you will have your car running like it was before. Then you send mails and report him on Hellopeter, only to be told "O no sorry we have decided to not help you anymore, go get your car fixed somewhere else"!! Lame AfriHost lame!!

It was an act of cowardice unbecoming of someone with a Superman Avatar. Do the right thing. Reinstate his account and apologize. Then maybe we can move on.

I have actually stopped expressing my concerns about the bad service....

I agree, re-instate my account and I will not take further action against Afrihost.

I think most of the thread here on MyBB would just like to move on to the next issue. Like I said, happy to chat to the three or four of you pursuing this via PM, but I think we've really dwelled on this issue for long enough.
