Is anyone else having latency issues with online gaming? Had high latency for about 2 weeks now but tonight is the worst. LoL is running at a nice average of 600 m/s. Before all this it averaged 200-210. Is it just me?

Not just you. I also have problems with LoL ping (average about 250 - 600). Is your ping constantly at 600 or does it fluctuate? Mine randomly jumps between 250 - 600.

I no longer use Afrihost for gaming, the latency is bad. I had to get myself another account just for gaming. Maybe Afrihost could throw in some free WTFast accounts like mweb used to do when gaming sucked on their network. ;) After all, we do pay a lot for these business accounts...

Exactly the same as yours, fluctuates between 250-600, it peaked at 799. But it was never like this.

@Rohan , yeah the download speeds are still perfect but this latency issue is getting frustrating. Maybe I should try another isp and see what the differences are. In this way i would also be able to see if it's on my end or not.

I would suggest running traceroute tests whenever you are having problems with your LoL ping. I have found that most of my latency problems are caused by a congested exchange, which slows everything on my side down so much that I am barely able to use the internet.

Try using the Afrihost Network Testing application to test your line whenever you have bad pings, and then post the results here for further analysis.

The testing app can be found here: https://www.afrihost.com/site/page/afrihost_network_test

Alternatively, you can use Zertop's testing applications, which will also help to identify if the problem is on your side. They can be found here: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/607090-quot-Is-it-my-Line-quot-Report-Tool?p=12372998
and here: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/576445-quot-Help-me-fix-my-internet-quot-report-tool

If you need any help using these applications, please feel free to ask. I have found that most forum members are extremely helpful when it comes to internet issues :)

Sorry, I'm not very up to date with these type of things, so i don't exactly know what they mean..
But here is the results:

Zertop's "Is it my Line" Results
Basic Report:

Your average ping was 55ms
Your maximum ping was 143ms

Looking at your average ping, your line seems to be a bit dodgy :/ This may account for any slow speeds you may be experiencing. However, it could just be related to a high-latency home network (ie... Wi-Fi). If you feel the need, please post the results (at the end of the program) into the forum for advice

right after i posted the above i played LoL again and the ping was fine. (average of 215) so i don't know whats going on but will keep monitoring it.

Edit: I was connected to the router via cable. That might be what made the difference. The high ping was when I was conected via wifi. All the above test were done when I were connected with the cable. Ill check how it holds up, and then try the wifi again to see if results are different.

You can PM through your DSL username or an email address that's linked to your account :) We can see what's happening from there.

Sent the PM Tuesday already. 4 days later, NO replies.

Time to search for another ISP then. Both your support on here and your call centre absolutely sucks.

Streaming is going for a ball of ****, and in 4 days there's been no attempt whatsoever from your side to help either.

Pathetic.

Just upgraded to 4Mbps Business Uncapped, and so far gaming ping is terrible... :(

Youtube streaming (and all other online streaming vids) still sucks ass. Buffers like mad on 360p, never mind trying to watch on 720p.

Tried to sign up for Afrihost Business Uncapped now but the registration form keeps giving a critical error.

Youtube is local.

How about Netflix or Hulu?

I don't use Netflix or Hulu either. Everything I need to watch I can find on YouTube, so no problems for me there :).

The only thing that bothers me is my gaming latency, which makes online gaming virtually impossible.
Please Afrihost, sort out the gaming and streaming issues... I just played a game of League of Legends using my Web Africa Free 1GB account, and I had almost no problems with latency (202 ping), but on my Afrihost account it fluctuates between 200 - 600 ping :(.

Kudos AH for setting up a Speedtest.net server @ Gallo Manor.

Crosses fingers for a JHB pingtest server.

Twitch is poop again. That didn't last very long.

If this isn't fixed before the next billing period I'm unbundling and moving somewhere where international (I have no issues with YouTube) streaming actually works. There have been more than enough complaints in this thread about this already.
