Hey AfriMan,

Yeah was 3G/HSDPA modem, didn't mean to compare wireless to DSL, was just illustrating that the normally worse connection (wireless) was performing better than the fixed line) I was hoping the unshaped connection would prove legendary... :(

So ping test follows (Afrihost Network Tester) and a Pathping to my game server...

and a quote from Blizzard Technical Support

"Your connection seems to be showing package loss straight away after it exits your home network. Issues like this are likely the cause behind the massive latency you are getting."

Oh, BTW Im under 100M from my exchange... XD

Definitely seeing the packet loss but strange to see it starting already on the second hop, so that could be a number of reasons.

Do you see anything different if you test with another ISP network?

Is anyone else having latency issues with online gaming? Had high latency for about 2 weeks now but tonight is the worst. LoL is running at a nice average of 600 m/s. Before all this it averaged 200-210. Is it just me?

That sucks. Would really need a little more info on this to give an opinion. In terms of the overall network, we should be seeing excellent latency and throughput for local and international.

Do you see high latency in general speedtests?

I no longer use Afrihost for gaming, the latency is bad. I had to get myself another account just for gaming. Maybe Afrihost could throw in some free WTFast accounts like mweb used to do when gaming sucked on their network. ;) After all, we do pay a lot for these business accounts...

Sorry to hear that. I think we had some problems of contention prior to receiving upgrades, which had a big effect on realtime latency dependant services like gaming.

Now that we're seeing better throughput on the networks, we should be seeing must better realtime performance.

If gaming is not working on Business, this is pretty serious and we'll need to get on top of this :(

I would suggest running traceroute tests whenever you are having problems with your LoL ping. I have found that most of my latency problems are caused by a congested exchange, which slows everything on my side down so much that I am barely able to use the internet.

Try using the Afrihost Network Testing application to test your line whenever you have bad pings, and then post the results here for further analysis.

The testing app can be found here: https://www.afrihost.com/site/page/afrihost_network_test

Alternatively, you can use Zertop's testing applications, which will also help to identify if the problem is on your side. They can be found here: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/607090-quot-Is-it-my-Line-quot-Report-Tool?p=12372998
and here: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/576445-quot-Help-me-fix-my-internet-quot-report-tool

If you need any help using these applications, please feel free to ask. I have found that most forum members are extremely helpful when it comes to internet issues :)

Good advice. The more information you can give us, the better the chance of quickly resolving the issue on our side. Also, if multiple people experience the same problem at the same time, this will verify this quickly and we can get started on finding solutions :(

right after i posted the above i played LoL again and the ping was fine. (average of 215) so i don't know whats going on but will keep monitoring it.

Edit: I was connected to the router via cable. That might be what made the difference. The high ping was when I was conected via wifi. All the above test were done when I were connected with the cable. Ill check how it holds up, and then try the wifi again to see if results are different.

Changing from WiFi to LAN cable makes a huge difference in terms of latency, cos you can connect to your router at around 100Mbps with no interference. WiFi interference can cause a lot of additional latency, depending on structures, temperature, etc.

Sent the PM Tuesday already. 4 days later, NO replies.

Time to search for another ISP then. Both your support on here and your call centre absolutely sucks.

Streaming is going for a ball of ****, and in 4 days there's been no attempt whatsoever from your side to help either.

Pathetic.

Sorry about this. Dunno if you PM'ed me or AfriGuy, I;m still going through the messages from the weekend. If it's in my inbox, I promise you'll get a reply today. If not, please do PM me so I can help you :(

Kudos AH for setting up a Speedtest.net server @ Gallo Manor.

Crosses fingers for a JHB pingtest server.

Awesome. Guessing you're on a 1Mbps line - looking awesome :)

That's definitely not cool. Is that just in-game ping or your general line ping in speedtest or traceroute?

General ping in speedtest and traceroute is fine, but gaming ping is absolutely terrible :(

It is obviously a problem on your side, ask them to reboot your connection, that will fix it.... no wait, when it doesn't take complex measurements and pass all the information on - only to be told... "there isn't a general problem, is your exchange congested".... then when you prove it isn't.... "Have you rebooted your modem recently....

Afrihost, who used to be bloody amazing, are more dishonest than insurance agents / politicians....

I rest my case.

"Afrihost, ethics are optional"

I'm not quite sure I follow?
There aren't any issues on our end that could be causing this - so I need to look at a bit more info to see what's causing this.

The same line is used every time I have a problem. When I prove it is Afrihost's fault - Afrihost promises to get back to me - and of course never do.

I am so tired of watching you claim nothing is wrong with the network, yet it is plenty obvious where there is packet loss, and shaping of protocols...

I'm sorry if this is the case, I don't really think it's far to accuse us of this based off a simple speedtest from another user though.
If there's a pending query I can follow up, please send it to me via PM and we can run through some options together.
