Has anyone who had speed issues today seen an improvement? We are still crawling along.
Improved slightly for me. Nothing earth shattering though.

We did see some latency spikes earlier this morning, however these are mostly resolved now. Other than that, no general issues at the moment.
Is everything slow or only certain protocols?
This is a no no. I can deal with the slow downloads etc etc but I need my real time services to run smoothly.
Please sort out.
If your realtime services are not great then this is not a shaping issue. In any event Business is not shaped, but real time services get highest priority on the network. Have you dropped any of our team a PM yet? If not, please do so - we'd really like to help![]()

This is due to latency, Usenet (and torrents) opens many connections and therefore not that affected by latency. However the other downloads (there may be exceptions as you get applications that opens multiple connections) suffer due to using a single connection and have to wait for packet to ack'd. If you get packet loss then the results are even worse. You can read about it here: http://bradhedlund.com/2008/12/19/how-to-calculate-tcp-throughput-for-long-distance-links/Also finding oddness.
Usenet is fast, 420kb/s
but Mozilla nightly udpates, 50kb/s
drivers from AMD's site, 80kb/s
FTP seems to be worse on a site I know has a fast link.
Thanks for the honesty, however these days you guys saying that you're doing everything you can ~ (approximately equals) to shaping the lights (more like the be-jes..) out of the traditional uncapped accounts.Hi guys
It looks like latency spikes returned again this morningI'm really sorry about this, I can promise you that we're doing everything we can to identify the root cause of this issue.
Our team are already working on this and we're seeing latency return to normal - let's give our network a few more minutes to recover 100%

Guys, again, 4Mbps, Business Uncapped. I monitor network usage. This speedtest was done with no other downloads etc on the line.
0.76 Mbps on 4Mbps is not acceptable! And I get no feedback. Tell me, please, what am I supposed to think? As I said earlier, I'm not using the Business Uncapped for torrents or usenet or whatever, it's being used in the office.
Totally totally unacceptable. Including the total lack of feedback.
The icing on the cake is of course the website stating the network is fully operational...
You've been having far too many "temporary glitches" to call this a temporary glitch. Afrihost's response to a problem is: let's wait and see if it solves itself and if it does then write it off as a temporary glitch. Is there not even the remote possibility that all these complaints and "temporary glitches" are related to a deeper more serious issue on your network? The latency issue was a temporary glitch, we have sorted this out and seeing the network normalise.
