Afriguy, will PM you now. Tired to use online support, but it never seems to work either, always have to email, bit emails don't get responded to

PS PM sent

Awesome - have replied now. It looks to me like a crossed line - so I don't want to block the other number cos then you'll have no connection when this happens. Let's do some elimination and see what happens first :)

Thanks, will change password and see if it happens again, seemed to have happened when there was the connectivity issue in the Cape Area on Monday

Just to check, if you're on a business account, can you disconnect from line1 and then dial in from line2? (I know 1 concurrent session, but is it port-locked too?)

It is locked, but clears after 24 hours (if there is no active connection for that period)

Story of my upgrade from 2Mbps uncapped to 4Mbps Business

Ok so here is the story of my upgrade, and why I am suspicious.

When my account was first upgraded, my line speed was set at 4Mbps.
A landline with almost the same number as mine was added to clientzone, except the prefix was 512 instead of 012. (in the data usage graphs, under access points I could see the usage for: Consolidated, 012 xxx xxxx, 512 xxx xxxx)
The new upgraded 4Mbps business line was using the 512 line number. That 512 line gave the insane speeds. It was very easy to see that there was no shaping/throttling at all. (I downloaded OS X Mavericks and all the updates etc at 4000kbps)
The speeds were insane, night and day. There were no slowdowns. It would cruise at 3.8-4Mbps all day and all night long.

However, this only lasted 3 full days, before my ISP (telkom or something) broke it, by changing the line speed or something.
Then my line was down for 4 days, and I was unable to connect at all (ie, zero activity). (Afriman, 4 day refund for line breaking during business upgrade please?? :erm: )
My router was reporting sync speed of 10Mbps. Clientzone was confirming this, and the line test was passing every time.

Eventually telkom phoned, and set my line speed to 5Mbps. Magically my modem was able to connect again, and it worked again, just like it did before.
But, that is not all. According to clientzone logs, I am back on the 012 line. And I am getting quite miserable speeds. Aftenoon/Evening slowdown is the worst, speeds struggle to break 2Mbps.

So, Something is definitely going on.
My question, what changed? Am I being throttled for having my line set to 5Mbps instead of 4Mbps? Or was there something special about the 512 line number? Is my 012 line getting throttled? :wtf:

Very slow browsing, downloading and random authentication failures on my business uncapped 6mbps account.

I smell congestion, see the second hop in each case.
Also, give your router a restart. Anything over 1ms is not ideal with the first hop (being your router). Are you on Wifi or ethernet?

No general issues on our end, it looks like your exchange may be congested here :( The 2nd hop needs to see the lowest possible latency.
Have you only noticed this tonight?

Hi AfriGuy,

I sent you a PM...My Uncapped 4096 kbps speeds have gone slow on international downloads, uploaded.net and rapidget.net but my http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3069967125 is looking fine.

However, my 3 GB DSL Prepaid Package is running at maximum speeds when downloading form the same sites.

Please kindly assist...Thank you

Thanks, will take a look at it as soon as I can :)

@bedford, remember to migrate line as well, this you will save s bit on the line and pay a bit more on the data

I would recommend keeping your line with Telkom. It makes switching between ISP easier. When MW went vrot I was up with AH in 20 minutes. However if i had that line with MW, maybe id still be crying !!!
Who's to say AH doesnt give you grief down the line - we all sang MW praises "free the web - blah blah". Thats the nature of consumerism today. Fickle ? maybe. Bad customer service? definitely a possibility and probable.

my chappies worth :-)
