Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

Hey everyone with twitch issues, there shouldn't be an issue on business? Maybe it was a glitch somewhere. For example. Were you still using your old ISPs DNS by any chance?

Noob here. On Telkom internet at the moment. Am I correct when I assume I can expect full torrent speeds 24/7 or very close to full speeds 24/7 on a afrihost business uncapped account?

Yes :) Everything is unshaped

What be NTV? Link please? Google gives all kinds of stuff.

For Netflix, in Cape Town, apparently it is a bad idea. Should not be shaped according to Afrihost, but is shaped to a useless 140p.

Not applicable to business, it should run without any issues or shaping

Queued up a load of crap I don't need, getting a continued fluctuation between 400 and 800KB/s, usually sits at 500KB/s. This won't be acceptable at this cost. Submitted a support ticket about a hour ago... will see how it goes.

Strange? Should be fine? How's capped looking now? Also - PM Afriman, he should be able to help you out :)

Weird :D what happens if you use Google dns?

Hi Zertop

I tried with blank modem (ISP addigned), AH DNS (196.7.7.7, 196.7.8.9) and with Google DNS (8.8.8.8 , 8.8.4.4) when the buffering started on Sunday.

No change.

Buffers still on Business, fine on free - even with nothing happening in the background, just the browser open and a Twitch live stream.

Hmm, Sounds like something changed over the weekend, cause the issues seemed to appear all at once.

Capped was fine just before I changed.

One thing I'm not going to do is start PMing people, if this account doesnt work - I'll get a refund. I've logged a support ticket at 14:52 - I'll wait for their response, if it doesn't arrive in good time, or I don't get one in 24 hours - I'm out. (and request a refund, it doesn't have to be double back, just what I paid)

Hey guys,

I see this thread has also been pretty busy today, our whole team has been a little side tracked in helping launch and fine tune the website launch today. I'm sorry if I missed any important posts or queries here, PLEASE PM me if I did. I'll try and pick up on any old posts if I can as well.

at the end of this month i will move to AH-B 6mbps

icant wait

and the new site looks awesome :D

all this talk about business not running full speed ,kinda makes me worry if i made the right choise
but i have to see how it goes,

anyways, the usage tracker ,how far can it go back? just wondering :)

Glad to hear you're thinking of joining us. I know that a few people are mentioning not getting the speeds they'd like on certain services, but just remember that it depends on your network region as well as the quality of your line.

We have thousands of Business DSL clients who are experiencing great speeds, so it will always come down to your individual experience :)

Not a good start, started off with a bang, now seem to be getting 400-580KB/s on 10MB. Definitely nothing to do with my line, because the 1GB account was fine, and my line was fine prior to moving.

International speeds can vary according to a number of factors, so we'd need to look at traces to the content servers concerned. As far as we know all our international links are running optimally and not at capacity so we're not seeing contention for international traffic.

Are these measured from torrents or direct file downloads?

Newsgroups....

I have installed a bandwidth monitor to get an average, I don actively download and rely on automation.

Very very impressed and happy with my 6Mb account!

Doing some STEAM game re-installs (HDD died last month.....), and looky here:

It is going along at over 500k/sec consistently and check that peak! I have been keeping an eye on it and it has been over 2Mb on a few occasion in the last 2 hours.

Here... this is my Steam contribution...

So... I cannot really complain :D .

Is there a way that we can see your actual throughput on the line - maybe using BitMeter OS so we can see if your line is bursting at higher values or "capped" at a certain throughput speed.

So you'e saying that Free GB gives no issues but Business buffers. How long are you running the tests for?

Hi AfriMan

Yes... this is exactly my current experience.

It used to play on medium without buffering... but since late Saturday afternoon I cannot watch a Twitch live stream on medium without it buffering on the business account. It buffers 20 to 30 seconds into the stream and then every 20s to 30s it buffers, for as long as the stream is watched, be it 5 minutes, 10 or 20 minutes... constant buffering. It happens every time I load any stream, at any time of day or night.

The free 1GB account is buffer free on medium. Here any live stream loads on medium and will stream free of buffering until the stream is finished or the browser closed.

The business account used to be just the same.
The constant buffering makes watching the stream impossible... so testing it is limited by the irritation threshold which is reached rather quickly, alas.

This appears isolated to Twitch only on the business account, everything else on it is working just fine here.

It is puzzling as to why this has happened almost overnight.

Well I can now confirm the twitch issue. On a stream that my IS account can stream on HIGH, my friend with the AH Business account is lagging on low.
