It depends on the backhaul from the DP to the MSAN. You may well be in the same boat, but it could improve. When they laid fibre from my DP to the exchange (in preparation for VDSL) my performance improved greatly and I could upgrade to 10Mbps.

Hmmm, well the exchange is rated for 20Mbps VDSL so I don't think they will come back anytime soon but not sure if upgrading would work.

Youtube running really crappy tonight!!

A simple 42 minute series episode from 1channel took me nearly 2 hours to watch. Filmon SD mode buffers like 10 sh*ts on my 8MB business Uncapped connection.

Tell me is there something wrong with this tracert below?? It seems to have gone in a loop?

C:\Users\Patrick>tracert 105.236.1.65

Maybe because you are trace routing your own IP?

try tracert www.mybroadband.co.za

That is not my IP, that is the gateway's IP and it should have stopped after the initial hop.

Sorry to hear that. I didn't test last night. Did you run any comparisons?

As far as I can see the South network hit heavy demand spikes between 18:00 and 22:00, but the North should have been reasonably within performance limits - not sure which you are running on. I'm guessing South.

I don't think tracing a gateway IP is a great idea, seems like everything is normal in this trace. Depends on what the routing and servers are setup to do.

Your trace to MyBB seems pretty normal, except for a spike in latency outside our network (on one ping I wouldn't be too concerned, unless it was on all 3 pings)

will do so

my account will end of next month
so i will just test you guys:)

i gonna get it next month and give my ow to a friend :) thats still stuck on 20gb cap :)

I have just moved from OW to AH, what a pleasure! It is still early days yet with AH, and I'm hoping that their service remains what they have promised.

Just to state, I'm on 2MB Business Uncapped and it's been downloading at just over 200Kbs constantly since I opened the account. Will keep tabs on this forum periodically and see if there is anything new to report.

Yeah, it's really not looking great up North either at the moment, dude. About 2/3 of the video addons I have installed in XBMC are unusable, and Youtube can't seem to make it through a 30 minute video without stumbling, some times rather badly. Multi-threaded downloads seem alright, but anything reliant on a single connection is hit-and-miss. Feels like when home 'uncapped' started its slide towards oblivion, so I'm not thrilled with having to pay extra for an experience that's still less than stellar.

I'll see if I can run some worthwhile tests tonight, but a free gb doesn't allow for much testing when one uses 4 or 5 with a night's light streaming. Again, traces seemed fine...

i am more interested in the YouTube streaming and streaming in general, than downloads,
ur in the south?

looks like theirs high demand , warning on the axxess page and afri's most

hope its not as bad as it was last time, from reading this thread
still gonna give it a go :)

I had a Gold Uncapped account with OW, I don't think the Gold actually meant anything as I was constantly shaped / throttled.

Yup, I'm in Cape Town, I did watch a few videos last night on YouTube and it all worked pretty normally. I've downgraded from 4MB to 2MB (Since I would prefer 2MB Business to 4MB CantDoAnything)

Glad to hear that!

Which region are you in - or which city?

EDIT: See you answered that in a later post. Doh!!

We'll need to look into this and test with you, so we eliminate any possible variables.

I'll run some tests on Youtube as well tonight to test from my side on Capped and Uncapped to see if I see the same :(

Drop me a PM regarding the testing, so I can make sure we test with the same steps.

A question... When I login to the CPanel there is the 100% realtime speed thing that is displayed, what would cause this to be less than 100%?

Seemed a bit better a few minutes after posting the message last night. So all good thanks

There could be local factors like congestion on your home network. Also issues on your line or exchange.

ON our side, if demand is extremely high, there could be contention on the network affecting throughput. Streaming especially needs to burst occasionally and this what causes buffering.
