Afrihost Capped ADSL Feedback (MTN) - New beginning

The AfriGreen IPs are from a brand new range, so the Geo-Location in some cases is not set correctly. We've had the IPs assigned to the correct region with most of the Geo-Location vendors, but some of the smaller and custom location services may not yet have updated their systems.

Can I ask that you report this via the ClientZone, under your Connectivity tab, your AfriGreen account, then by selecting Report Issue.

We will need a bit of additional information, so if you can let us know which hosting company you are using, as well as your backend software, we can get this sorted ASAP.

Done, I also sent Carla a screenshot.

Hey guys

This is more for those Apple fanboys.
iOS 9 is set for release at 19:00 tonight, so we don't expect that much load to be put on the network as it is after hours. I think we all know there'll be a rush to get it - but let's try and download the updates overnight :)

We've also posted this across Social.

I take exception to being called an Apple fanboi.

And my ISP has no problem handling my demand for updates.

I have turned off AutoUpdate on every device I own since M$ spent two days , whilst I was trying to stream, downloading WIN 10 incase I wanted to install it despite me deliberately NOT reserving a copy. That device is now earmarked as a future Linux box. It wouldn't surprise me if M$ also now try and force WIN10 onto android devices by disguising it as an M$ Office Viewer update :)

I've read that Apple have changed how they do updates to be smoother and less taxing on your devices and internet. Let's hope that's true :)

The problem is not just the iOS update itself. Every time there is a new iOS release almost every app issues an update (and then often issues bug fixes on the update in short order) so over the following weeks users end up downloading much much more than just the iOS update itself. This is why the effects of an iOS update continue for some time after the initial release.

Indeed, that makes a lot of sense. But I think that is stepped out a lot more as people go and do their App store updates. It's the initial rush to get the new OS that makes it a little tough on the networks :(

I'm using my capped Afrihost account with my Telkom 20Mb fibre line. These are the speeds I'm getting:

I'm also constantly getting DNS timeouts and have had to reset the router about 5 times.

What the hell is going on?

That's not looking good at all :(
Do you have an Afrigreen account to test to see if there's any marked improvement?

I think you're vastly underestimating the effect. I updated to iOS9 last night and I already have 38 apps with updates for iOS 9 totaling 2.7GB. Most people will just update all after an upgrade so it's not something that is all that stepped out.

My Capped Account has been useless for the past month. Keeps disconnecting and latency is horrendous. Logged a ticket a week ago where Afrihost advised it was a Telkom problem. Despite following up daily not a single person has contacted me, seven days later. Can't perform any work. Tragic how terrible Afrihost have become.

It depends on how many apps people have, so it will always vary according to the individual. I also noticed that the older the device, the bigger the update. My iPad Mini was only about 800MB but my wife's iPad 3 was almost a GB.

That's definitely terrible, it shouldn't be like that. While we can't guarantee when Telkom would come out, we should be in constant contact with you, especially if you are following up on your end.

Can you PM me with any details that I can follow up?
