Afrihost Capped ADSL Feedback (MTN) - New beginning

So I made the mistake of watching some streams in source mode and murdered my bandwidth a little early this month, so i thought i would take this opportunity and try out AH again (its been well over a year since i switched to WebAfrica). I haven't tried any online gaming but i see the streaming is still suffering...

I really really don't understand this, the problems that were there over a year ago are still present. It really grates me! I phoned your support desk to help me with some account issues i was having, and i can honestly say that AH probably has the best support desk in the ISP business, but the network is still shocking!

Where is this new network that i have been reading about and how can i get my account onto it?
Had the same feeling last night and this morning. And having to pay an extra R51-61 more for 3 days for a BUSINESS UNSHAPED ACCOUNT... And that is not what I got. Oh and the R51-61 was above my premium I paid for a 2MB business account at the start of the month that I could not use, due to the shyte AH network...

so it looks like my line is timing out all the time.

Websites don't fully load, speedtest times out, cant play online.

Spoke to a guy from afrihost, went through a few things, but it is still the same :(

Definitely concerning. Looking at later posts, do you have any idea how far you are from the exchange?

If you drop me a PM, I can check for you and also check your line stats to see if the line seems stable.

Business Account... 4MB, but P2P is not running at 100kbps?

Should have stayed on the normal uncapped service. There I at least got 200kbps on a 2MB uncapped account.

So I am the fool again! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZQkDd2QROI

P2P is definitely running great for me. I was pulling down a few files at about 1.4MB/s on my line. Are you judging by a single file? What do your regular line and performance tests show?

is 1KM from the exchange, good or bad?

In the 2 years I have been with you with no issues.
Now, last 3 days I have to change my dns settings, have to unplug my phone etc and now... Now It an issue with how far I am from the exchange?
I did not pick my house up and move it.

While on phone with one of your chaps, speed test bombed out all the time, I was online at one stage but your system did not pick it up.

At moment I am running some other isp's dns settings and so far I could actually load Web pages, youtube buffer better and play a little bit online.

Let's see how that goes for the next day

That's decent, you generally shouldn't have problems.
Okay thanks. Think that is what Charl of Telkom indicated to me( apologies if it wasn't him)

Maybe that's why I have had very little issues thus far on my line.

You should be on the new network, so you should see a difference in performance.

What exactly were you testing and what results did you get? also, did you run any basic health check tests that I can look at?

Copper cabling does degrade over time, so the distance factor can become more relevant as this happens. I'll really need to know more, but we see more dropouts due to distance from the exchange than we have in the past (especially at speeds of 4Mbps and above).

Let me know how your testing goes - you're welcome to PM anytime :)

Will definitely pm you.
But then why does other isp info not have problem on the same "degraded over time" line?

Will do more testing and be back.
Thank you

I was just trying to do normal streaming on twitch. My line and equipment are all running perfectly. I have about 2gb left on my WA account and when i switch to it and run the exact same stream i can run it perfectly on source, but when i switch to my AH account, medium quality is constantly buffering.

Ill be testing gaming probably tonight, so I'm crossing my fingers.

If i PM you my account, could you confirm whether i am on the new network?

I'd have to see and investigate more. As far as my own testing goes, our new network is rocking at the moment.

Will look out for your PM.

Twitch was not great as well in our tests, but probably because of the routing issue we've had over the last few days.

Twitch is definitely a performance benchmark for us and we'll monitor once this issue is fully resolved.

"Not great" is putting it lightly. Currently can't even watch on mobile quality without buffering every 4 seconds. I didn't even know that buffering on mobile was a thing. Especially on 20mb.

Yeah we have been seeing some complaints regarding Twitch, but drop me a PM with your username and I'll have a look at it for you. :)

I'm on AH uncapped and have had many issues the last few days. Line dropping, low speeds, and as we speak it dropped again. Seems only local is working, and Youtube for some reason.

Goes back to normal after a while, but drops again eventually.

Anyone else having issues/is there a known issue, or am I the only one? Pretoria east.

You do know that the copper cables will last between 20-50 years depending on the polymer sheating used. Excessive heat or other environmental factors can speed up the degradation.

The poster said that there is a noticeable difference by just switching ISPs. I honestly think a better excuse would have been the congested exchange or something which can not be reliably measured such as radio frequency or electromagnetic interference
