Afrihost Capped ADSL Feedback (MTN) - New beginning

Hey. So ever since yesterday I've had the most appalling internet. Troubleshooted for the past 2 days with the Social Media team and my internet is SLIGHTLY better but some sites just won't load. I can't even get onto speedtest.

HELP ME BEFORE I DIE.

Thanks.

Hi!

I see AfriGuy has been assisting you via Twitter.

I don't want to re-hash all the troubleshooting that he has done with you, but have you tried out one of the AfriGreen accounts to see if that helps.

Huh... Something is not quite right here... Are you able to run a traceroute to the server that you are connecting to by any chance?

I do not think so. No idea where the servers or how to find out its address. I watch the games through the Dota client. But don't worry, I understand there is not much that can be done.

Do you see an improved experience over on Afrigreen?

Help yourself and look at other isps too...

There is a lot that can be done, and a lot that is being done by our Team, the traceroute would just have helped us to find out if it is a localized issue with the routing, or one of the upstream providers.

Were you able to test the performance last night?

Top-ups on our Capped accounts already roll-over, but I don't think we have any plans in the short-term for having your standard cap roll-over.
Why not?? If other ISP's can do it then why not Afrihost?
I, like many others have stuck with you for years through the gloriously good days and the very bad days/months! After all we do pay for our data upfront so it belongs to us - doesn't it? There have been many times when I have not been able to use the data I have paid for - through no fault of mine and yet I am expected to forfeit thousands of Rands.
Doing this roll-over thing would be one way of appeasing the angry hordes and would certainly be a big factor in me, personally, not deciding to move on. (My Afrigreen test experience so far is looking pretty good).
I would like to hear a lucid and no BS response from you, please.

So my die hard Afrihost Buddy just took a vox account after getting

Download: 0.75 Mbps | Upload: 0.03 Mbps | Ping: 355 ms

This was on the new afrigreen network. His been arguing with me about how he loves Afrihost and would not leave them for the last two months.

We play various online games together and every time his connection dies I tell him that it his ISP. He defended you guys all the way saying no it must be Telkom he never has issues with you.

I send him to all the articles on mybb about the issues and he still defended you.

I sent him to this thread. Still would not leave. Eventually he switched to afrigreen and tested it out. He was initially happy had good stats last night. Then today and tonight has been terrible again.

Finally asked me who I would recommend as an alternative and I pointed him to mybb latest ISP results and the vox special. He choose them and is now going to enjoy his internet.

I'm sorry Afrihost you guys have dropped the ball and while I hope you will come back to former glory, until then you will probably continue to loose customers.

Good luck, and good night.

Your exchange is going to be blamed due to 2nd hop latency.

First time in 4 years that this problem has arisen. So if it is indeed the exchange then so be it. That just means I will cancel ADSL. But to be sure I will get a test account from a different ISP and paste the results here.

Hows this one? Still exchange?

Are you still able to help?

I had the same last night.
900ms ping to afrihost.com from my AH account.
Switch to an IS-based provider... 35ms. Same with the speedtest. 0.3Mbps on AH... 6.5Mbps on the IS one.

Why not?? If other ISP's can do it then why not Afrihost?

Data expiry is part of the deal, the problem is the mathematics would simply get too complicated to provide a simple service as we'd have years and years of unused MBs and GBs and accumulating. Data has to expire sometime. We've extended it on Topups, but only for an additional month, as we'd end up with the same problem. We're simply not going to introduce that much complexity to the system as it will complicate everything from support to billing, which means more administrative staff to oversee this and higher costs to pass onto the client.

We give our clients the ability to decide how much data they need and the flexibility to topup or downgrade within the month, so I believe that this is the simplest way for all concerned.

That looks to me to be your exchange. The second hop is on Telkom's network, not on ours :(

I was away for the weekend. No power, no phone reception. I didn't miss the internet.
So I come home to this... I wish I was in the bush again. At least then I have no expectations of having internet.

Looks like Bashley's issue was exchange related. Can you post your results, please?

Yup, there we go... playing the Chinese Maths card again. Dear AH rep.. I thought only Telkom had the privilege of playing that card.

I think I gave a pretty straightforward answer there.

PM me if you need it explained more simply for you :)

If this is the case then why can other ISP's offer the facility of carrying unused bandwidth over?
Also, whilst we made a judgement about how much data we needed, there have been many times when, due to the degraded service, we have not been able to use it and at the end of the month see it washed down the drain. We are gluttons for punishment (hoping to experience the glory days again) and just keep on paying!
Personally I would be happy if my unused data could be carried over for say three months and then I lose it.
