Only been with AH for about 2 - 3 months after suffering through Openweb BS for 18 months. Already I have had several breaks in my internet connection. I had another one this morning and when I phoned AH to find out how long the problem was likely to last, the person with whom I was unfortunate enough to speak, was really sarcastic, abrupt and unpleasant.
I realize that AH was probably inundated with calls this morning but that type of treatment is still uncalled for and if this is the norm I can look forward to when contacting AH telephonically, I will definitely be looking for another ISP sooner rather than later.

Really sorry to hear that, even if we're busy (which we where earlier) it doesn't mean we can't be our normal, friendly self :)
Sounds like you where affected by the authentication issues, are you still unable to connect?

I've been a customer for years and they treated me like **** yesterday. I'm still having problems today and still getting no joy from them. I get it, it's Telkom's fault. Think I should maybe give my money to Telkom then. Might get better service too.

Sorry to hear that you feel that way, I really did try my best. If there was something I could fix myself, I would :(

All seems to be up and running again (touch wood):)

What have you done exactly? Except tell me there is a problem.

I thought everything was discussed via PM?
As mentioned, the exchange is congested - this isn't something that we can get involved in. But again though, if we could - I would gladly take this further.

Hi Afriguy,

Just a quick question. Has there been any network issues/congestion etc. in general since the quake yesterday? Was wondering if it caused any form of connectivity issues of any kind. Thanks.

No congestion on our end, our network is running really well at the moment :)
What kind of issues are you seeing? Spikes up in latency is slow throughput?

Moved to Afrihost Capped 100GB at start of the month, really really unimpressed. 100ms ping to LOCAL sites, let alone international. Best speed test I've had gives 5.5mbps on a 10mbps line. Prior ISP had none of these issues, so line / local DSLAM should be fine. Support takes at least 8 hours to respond to each message, and forgets to actually tell you what they want you to do, then just stops responding completely and ignores request to cancel. Not exactly a product I'd recommend.

Hi Afriguy,

Was just interested if anything happened broadly connected to the quake. Besides that though, the past week has been having some issues, buffering youtube and many sites not connecting, possibly latency issues. Doing a quick ping test, noticing some packet loss sometimes. When doing a pingplotter trace, I see there is a rb-dca-2.za--rb-cr-1.mtnns.net which jumps from the third hop of 25ms to 200ms then on the 5th hop after it, to 42ms. Is rb = Richards Bay? I'm in Durban practically on top of the exchange (ok slight exaggeration but very very close). This increased yesterday and today with connection issues to sites.

Overall I've been enjoying Afrihost, better experience than I've had with the others but there does seem to be some cut in performance with my 4meg line.

Is there any problem around the Durban area?

Regards
B

It's better now though, called Afrihost and they did something...

A fault has been opened with my line though and I'm waiting on Telkom to show up...

Not nice. On a 10Mb line. Not exchange related.
