Please Afrihost, I want my capped package back to 10 Mbps. I really really want to give you more money. After 5 weeks of my battling to get my line speed up to 8 Mbps, you decide to cut my line down to 4 Mbps?

Really sorry to hear this :(
Have we had a fault logged on this for you? The only reason your line would be set to a lower speed is if we're running troubleshooting with you or your DSLAM knocks down the sync to the next stable value.

i'm on the afrihost website and i want to change my uncapped 4mb account to the "casual package" 30G+30G...

1. what speeds would i get if i change to capped on my 4mb line?
2. it says "concurrent connections 10" - does this mean i can use this account on 2 or more different adsl lines? eg i can use this account for my home and my dad who is in a different province all together?

Afriman? can you help? your online chat help is, sorry to say, useless because you can never get help... its always unavailable...

1. Capped products max your line speed.
2. Yes.

Hi Slamz :)

Sorry that you didn't get through to our Live Chat guys, it's become a very popular channel - improvements coming soon though :) Hope I can clear up your questions:

1) The Capped packages will run as fast as your line syncs at
2) The concurrent connections mean that you can use the account at 10 different locations. So one at your place and at a mates place, or 9 other mates places :)

Edit Ah I see Chevron beat me to the answers :)

I hope the upgrade will sort out this packet loss issue.

Today again, constantly getting large amounts of packet loss on this capped account, even when the line is completely idle.

I do hope so, and hopefully it's not gonna be much longer till we find out.

My experience is that running the network at capacity has strange residual effects, so this sounds like it may be one of them. Intermittent backlog of requests at the IPC, etc. I am pretty sure that the upgrade will probably make this go away.

Question:

Why does my IP change sometimes to Cape Town when I do a speedtest in JHB?

So AfriGuy/AfriMan when can we expect double bandwidth allocation for bundled capped customers?

This isn't something to be concerned about, it's probably an IP that's be geolocated incorrectly on speedtest - this kind of things usually sorts itself out :)

I don't have an exact date on anything I'm afraid, I'm sure our team are working on something awesome though :)

Believe me the capped products are just as bad at the moment. I am only able to get 2mbps from my 6mbps line in the evening... when I switch to another ISP it goes full speed.

Here in the north (jhb) my capped account is consistent and my downloads average 200kB/s on a 2Mb line.

The only issue would be a congested exchange.

Well guys it's official, Afrihost have found a way to throttle my downloads.
I am on a 50gig up to 10meg line and I used to get amazing speeds
but for this whole month my line has been stuffed!
my downloads are all going at less than 50mb but if I do a speed test (while downloading) I get 6-700mb
Now you please tell me what's going on there...?

Dear Afriman/Guy/Girl

i changed my package from 4mb uncapped to 30gig + 30gig...

in the the clientzone, my usage on uncapped was 29.8gig used(hows that for irony)... now i switched to the capped package on saturday...

1. is it active at the moment?
2. am i still running on the uncapped until next month 25th?
3. if not, will i get a refund on the balance for between the 2 products? (you dont have to pay me back, you can just deduct the R129 until the R399 is used up)
4. why in the clientzone does it not show my data balance remaining if i have changed the package?

Im not any of the people that you have directed this at, but I know the answer...

1. You have the 4mbps uncapped at R397. Your account will still be that on their system. You have just changed the profile on the account. Therefore, it is reflecting the new capped account you will be active on from tomorrow.

2.You are on the uncapped account till tonight at midnight.

3.Their debit order run went through to the bank today, so it will be the correct amount going off tonight if you changed your account as you said on Saturday.

4. In Clientzone, it changes immediately to the new package you have requested, but the backend system will only update the changes at midnight on 31 March 2014. If you inspect the account more thoroughly, you will see that it has no limit (because you are still on the uncapped account)

Hope this helps!
