Apology accepted. We'd however rather not undermine the anonymity of our mybb IDs. A good source for your never-mail list is the website unset contact flags you give us access to.
.

PS: If you provide us with an Afrihost email ID we can email with the request to be on the never-mail list, we'll use that.

PPS: Actually, no worries. Consider the matter amicably settled. No further action required.

Cool. But you can always email me on [email protected] and I'll make sure you get added to the list.

Obviously something has changed or else we would be experiencing the service we were used to. It's also rather disturbing that "there may have been a problem on the core network" but there was no notice of a problem on your network status page? So either there is a problem or there isn't but from a customers perspective there is definitely an issue. I have tested your capped products, uncapped products (normal and business) across 5 lines in 2 geographic areas across 3 different exchanges and they experience the same issue. Change the account to a personal 30GB account from Webafrica and guess what? No issues.

The level of troubleshooting using speedtest.net and traceroutes is also not reliable as u can prioritise hosts and icmp - something whoever your CTO is should inform your support staff about. Yes there are a myriad of things which can cause speed/performance issues but when you change ISP login details and the speed/performance issue is resolved there is only one explanation - something is wrong with AH's network and/or shaping and/or QoS.

Waiting for response....

Are your capped products and business uncapped products unable to achieve more than 500-600kbit/s internationally? Local seems ok at the moment.

Like I said, I'm still waiting for confirmation on that. So far, performance in general appears to be normal so I don't have any further info on this.

Any issue that is reported must be investigated and we must follow troubleshooting steps to replicate the problem exactly. Any CTO will tell you that jumping a conclusion that the network is broken is not helpful. We need to eliminate all other possibilities and any individual circumstances to the point where the issue or experience can be replicated consistently, and it can then be accurately analyzed to develop a solution. Sometimes simply changing accounts does nothing more than reset your line, it also depends on what testing protocols are employed and whether the tests themselves are consistent and there are no variable (or that we are aware of the variables and can mitigate them in some way or another).

No. The capped account is not shaped. It is however a known issue that Afrihost is not the go to Youtube/Hulu/Netflix ISP.

Haven't really tested Netflix and Hulu, but I have must confess to excellent performance on Youtube through my capped account. That's on full 720/1080 on TV through Xbox and PC monitors. No buffering/jitter or anything - it's perfect. Across multiple video types i.e. Minecraft/Spore (the Kids), Metallica/Iron Maiden (me), assorted videos (the wife).

Thats good to hear. Mine started issues around 4 or so months ago. But the rest of the speed is perfect I always get full line speed so Im happy

This is unacceptable. You need to introduce your wife and kids to the joys of Metallica and Iron Maiden immediately :)

froot, glad to see you have such low pings. I'm in the 200's on the 5th hop. Youtube and twitch are unusable. Afriman/guy I've resorted to asking Afrihost twitter account for assistance. Asked twice here and no response. Thanks. Bye.

Trace complete.

The problem may be on our side as far as this trace route goes, cos we had some intermittent problems with our website last night. All that should be resolved now though.

Can you run our network test app so I can see what your general latency is like? Maybe also include a recent speedtest so I can get an idea of the throughput you're getting.

Sorry that I missed your earlier posts. Sometimes it's hard for us to reply to every message if we think several consecutive posts are related to the same topic. You can PM me anytime so that you can be assured of a specific reply to your individual query.

Can I see the trace route you're referring to?

I've always been able to cap my 4Mb/s line at all hours, but since last night I've been getting very bad speeds. Last night my speed suddenly dropped to 20Kb/s, barely peaking at 100Kb/s. It only ever capped my line when I restarted the router, and that lasted less than 10 seconds before the speed dropped again.

The latency is bad as well. I was pinging local servers and it kept jumping between 100ms - 300ms. Even now it's still only spikes to 200Kb/s on my 4Mb line. Any issues with lines in Cape Town Southern Suburbs? Maybe exchange issue?

Voxratio whereabouts are you in the southern suburbs?

Are the rubbish speeds limited to only international throughput or everything?

Could be an exchange issue, the latency results you're mentioning above fluctuate far too much :(
Do you have a traceroute I can look at?

There was heavy rain yesterday. Could have messed your line or lines near exchange. Do a traceroute to afrihost.com and post here.

OK, I'm not sure if this will add to the mystery... right now at 1am in the morning, my line is running 100% perfectly. Max speeds, minimum latency, everything is normal. Any suggestions?

I will do a traceroute tomorrow during the day if need be.

It could be a problem on the exchange with backhaul, or weather related as someone suggested. If it even drizzles in my area my line goes kaput. If I didn't have mobile data I'd be sunk.
