What's going on? Are there authentication issues atm? I've got nothing on my AH account...

Am using my WA trial account.

Definitely no auth issues at the moment. PM me and I'll check your account. Could be a password or capping issue :(

@AfriGuy please ensure that you throttle the IOS users and not the adsl Capped users this round for their ridiculous update 8.1

We were quite happy that Yosemite doesn't seem to have the same impact as iOS. I guess more people ran downloads overnight when it was more convenient.

This is what I get using Axxess :

While my Afrihost DL languishes at about 1Mbps.

Both are using MTN data.

What is going on, Afrihost ???

Axxess manage their data pools differently to our, which they can probably do because they have a much smaller client base. They may see different peak periods, etc, because a lot more of their clients are based in the South, as i understand it. I couldn't really say for sure :(

Definitely looks pretty poor. What line speed are you testing? Can I see the full trace?

Nothing wrong with the line - Getting Throttled/Prioritized/limited/or whatever Afrihost calls it

DownStream Connection Speed 14183 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 912 kbps

Afrihost is following the same route mweb did..was great at the start now it sucks. I have a 10meg line and cant even watch youtube higher than 240p without buffering. Twitch streaming is so bad, only way to watch it is on the lowest most pixelated setting. I am not the only one complaining about this, so no, its not my line.

Just tried it again and it started working (at 3mb/s on my 40mb line). I'm not entirely sure why it wouldn't connect earlier..

I'm not trying to be antagonistic here, but I signed up for a WA trial account yesterday and I'm really glad I did. I run my business online and I really needed the net this morning. Thankfully I had the WA account to fall back on when my AH account failed me.

It's possible that there is high usage on the network, but we're not seeing general increases in latency and packet loss across the network. You would see this on all ISP accounts if this were a local or exchange issue :(

Towards the end of every month the same thing happens in the Cape - slow speeds even though I have an unshaped capped account. Last month Afrihost added a few Gigs of IPC but it is still not enough. IPC is probably the most expensive item in the chain of an ISP other than wages. It therefore makes sense that they will try to buy as little as possible without affecting users. I have a 10Mbps line and usually get 8.7Mbps because of the distance to the exchange. come the end of the month when everyone is frantically try to use up all their CAP and my speed drops to about 6Mbps during peak hours. Most people wouldn't even notice this and so Afrihost thinks they can get away with not purchasing an more IPC from Telkom in the Cape. why give away double the CAP when they know their network can't cope. I am paying for an unshaped account but not receiving one. I will once again be asking for a refund this month.

Afrihost know what the network problem is in the Cape. I have asked them to post the problem on their network status page but they don't seem to want to.

Tail chasing again.... will get absolutely nowhere.

Exactly like the previous IPC mumblemumble waffle deny.

Pointless... I guess we will just have to wait until the Staff Writer article about the IPC again... and then begin the great Telkom Countdown until switch-through again.

I don't have a date at this stage I'm afraid.

Afrihost ADSL network upgrades - Many Afrihost customers are complaining about slow ADSL speeds and network problems – here is what Afrihost is doing
Staff Writer -October 20, 2014

“Last week we upgraded our East IPC (Durban and Eastern Regions). This week and next week we are in the process of upgrading our North IPC (Johannesburg and Northern regions) and our South IPC (Cape Town and Southern regions),” said Payne.

“Hopefully within the next 10 days or so we will be back to normal,” Payne said

We'll hopefully see the upgrades within the next 10 days or so.

@Afriman - What are you going to do on the 20th November when DSTV switch on their streaming/download services to their decoders? - The perfect storm?

I'm sure we've got enough bandwidth due with the upgrades :)

I have just dumped Afrihost and it's not just down to the ongoing network fiasco. Over the last while the quality of support became embarrassing, newbies on the first level regurgitating scripts not getting anywhere and taking ages to do it. Non existent escalation processes, when eventually their telephonic system works. Lots of empty promises from managers that never see the light of day.

The network saga is a joke from end-to-end. They blamed iphone users for killing their network. When challenged they handed you off to telkom for a line fault even though they knew it was the network. Next it was just "demand", heaven forbid we actually use the service we were sold or expect them to manage their network to deal with the customers they know they have. Next it's "Mondays are busy days". It's one excuse after the next with no word or apology from Gian, no putting their hand up to admit they have stuffed up and zero compensation. Yet, they happily keep selling a service they cannot deliver on - it's arrogance on an epic scale. Fortunately it's easy to move and after a few clicks I'm at a new ISP and my service is back to usual.

As the customer you have choices, speak with your wallet. It's all these imbeciles will understand.
rant over!

So now its time to screw the IPC SOUTH
