Afrihost stole my money! I cancelled mid Oct and they charged me for another 5 Gig on 1 Nov. Phoned them to ask them why I am paying for 5Gb that I have not asked for. First they told me I would be refunded. Today I received an email to say that I will not be refunded because I used the account - that’s bulls*** I never used the account in Nov.

How do you cancel with these guys? If they take money from my card in December I will go to the police.... that is a promise!

If you want hassles to cancel - use AFRIHOST!

why on earth would anyone cancel a R29/GB special is beyond me - I pay around R200 for unreliable 3G :(

secondly, even if they DID charge you wrongfully, it's only a few bucks - and why don't you then just use it up for november since you have already paid for it??

thirdly, you might have used more than your allotted bandwidth for the month of october - IT'S VERY POSSIBLE

you can't tell everyone NOT to use Afrihost because you didn't tell them soon enough and might have used some of Novembers bandwidth ALREADY

You should thank them at least for driving down prices and putting other ISP's on their toes !

The only thing I can think of is that your usage for OCT was more than your allocated bandwidth so they're merely asking you to pay for it...
You must understand their capping process is almost non existent, e.g. I had a 10GB account in Sept and overshot by 1.3GB although I didn't know this until I signed on to the client zone and checked. I figured I will use the remaining GBs in Oct and also downgraded to a 2GB package (thank you LOCAL bandwidth :D). I was very careful to constantly log in to check my usage and with 3 days to go until the new month, it showed I still had about 800MB left. Imagine my surprise when logging on to the client zone on the 1st of Nov to see I have "already used" 700MB
But I am still happy though... this month I will really really really monitor my usage :D

Bottom line, you have probably overshot your usage in Oct and although you haven't used your account in Nov they have to charge you for it

i also have that 700mb showing on the 1st but the % used counter doesnt match (but looks right), so will see...

sigh im almost want to ask icasa for an implementation of a competency test to be able to use the interwebs.

the days when only a select few was on via 14400/9600... viva bbs ;)

I'm happy with my Afrihost service so far :D
nothing wrong here either with them. basic RTFM applies.

Why are you canceling, found a better deal somewhere else?

I don’t need the account for this month. It may be that I overshot usage (It may be 150Mb) but that is actually not my problem. They should get their capping sorted out. All I want to do with this thread is to warn anybody who wants to cancel an Afrihost account that it is not that easy to do. I actually tried to cancel in September (with 4Gb unused bandwidth) but then the account stopped working right away..... I had to phone them to try and explain that I want to cancel but don't want to lose the 4Gb.....

Be warned: It is not easy to cancel an Afrihost account! You will lose money.

And yes I know it is not a lot of money.... but they now have my credit card details.....

lol, I think a lot of people saw SPECIAL: R29/gig and signed up when they didn't really need the extra gigs. There are some deals that include line rental that are cheaper (per gig, if you assume line rental isn't subsidized) and come with local. I'm on Do2 and got an Afrihost gig "just in case."

Afrihost's call center is good. I had a problem and logging tickets etc didn't work. After I phoned them, I got it sorted almost immediately. Maybe the OP should try that.

its called taking responsibility for your actions and stop with the lets abuse with what is given to me attitudes.

i'm curious as to how you went about canceling your account, care to elaborate. an exact date of when you applied would be great.

no, practically the mind stopped at SPECIAL: R29/gig and didn't "care" to either read or think further.

What does it matter why he cancels? It is his option / decision?

Are you serious? I'm pretty sure if one of the other ISP's did this to you, you would also post here and complain? Just maybe that money was needed for something else that is far more urgent?

Agreed:)

yeah, I know that, and it's fine - just don't know why anyone would cancel it?
like a prev forumite asked, "why? did you get a better deal?"

Yeah, he needed the R29 to buy a Big Mac / New Socks :D

Hmm... has anyone else used the 1/10GB IS accounts (1GB is blended and the remaining 9GB is meant to be local) that have been around for ages?

Noticed how it's not hard capped... and that is why i have no need to change to Afrihost.

still waiting for as a detailed reply on the cancellation as it will point out how close the op was to the "billing run" and if it was at least 30 days notice.

LOL! I have been caught out! Not even R29 for a Gig beats this.....exactly!!!

I pay R75 for this from http://www.paradigmsolutions.co.za/server/service/adsl_is.asp

Guys, just beware, their admin and support is something shocking (in the past, dunno about now). But so long as u pay on time (and they dont have to disable u until u pay) I have found the account itself to be quite reliable.

Of course, since it is technically a 1GB blended account, you aren't guaranteed more than 1GB. That said, I have found this account to be very good value for money :D
