Afrihost - don't use!

Maybe you get what you pay for, was on afrihost since yesterday, slow, no page loading etc. Now back on Telscum and seems fine? Strange.
 
My account was cancelled and it is disabled on the control panel, but they also charged me beginning of the month. I do not have any more bandwidth available on my account but they charged me still. I reported it to my credit card fraud department and they are looking into it. Will see what Afrihost do now.
 
Have not had problems so far. Speed good, pages load. Granted I have not tried cancelling which is where most problems seem to be.

Maybe something to do with that one month cancellling thing.
 
Must look at my account, think i slight overused last month, but yeah, only good service so far...when cancelling, definitely make sure you given the respective notice period, confirm that they company has recieved your request and make sure you don't use extra bandwidth...
 
yeah, I know that, and it's fine - just don't know why anyone would cancel it?
like a prev forumite asked, "why? did you get a better deal?"

Thx Freakboy - so I am not the only one. I am prepared to lose the R145 but if they charge me again come 1st of Dec I will also call my card's fraud department and try to lay a charge at the police.....
 
still waiting for as a detailed reply on the cancellation as it will point out how close the op was to the "billing run" and if it was at least 30 days notice.

i'm curious as to how you went about canceling your account, care to elaborate. an exact date of when you applied would be great.

you did inquire if IS was shot or not ? strange though that every thing i downloaded via their IS shaped routes was fine at line max: quake live, windows updates, ****load if youtube trailers/music videos and left 4 dead 2 demo.

at least 30 days before next billing cycle ? or was it close to months end ?

The first time was in September - after account stopped I phoned them to activate it again and thought I will cancell at the end of Sept when all the bandwidth were used. Forgot to cancell.... Were billed on 1st Oct. Used the 5Gb and the account was cancelled on the 15/10/09 on the client zone. Saw the account were still showing on the client panel on 27/10/2009.

Emailed and asked about it and received the following on 27/10/2009:

Hi Hxx,

I trust you're well:)

The account was canceled on the 22:09 2009-10-15 through the client zone.
It will still appear on your client zone until the 30 day calender day period is over; in which the account should be removed completely.

There will be no billing going through.

10th of October to the 9th of November is a 30 day cycle right ?

which means you should have canceled on the first of October to have it expire at the end of October and not 10 days into October because you have forgotten to properly cancel in September and got rightfully billed for October.

30 notice is required.

Hxx I am going to organise you a refund. Looks like there was miscommunication in regards to this.

Hmm I am not an Afrihost subscriber so have never read by their T&Cs. But I am pretty sure that Gian came on these forums and said that as long as you cancelled before the end of the month there was no problem.

afaik, is if you cancel to close to the "billing run" (±28/29/30 ?) it will go though via the automated process and will have be reversed after the deduction was made.

Don’t you understand? When you cancel they cut you off immediately!! So do you propose I should have used my 5 Gb all on the 1st of October and then cancel (all of this on one day)??
