Afrihost New Network Feedback - Part 2

So has Afrihost officially abandoned myBB?

If the network is faulty what did they expect?
Everyone to just keep quite and say nothing?
Many of us posted tests a number of times, opened tickets with 'Critical Care' which lead nowhere.

If Afrihost had rather come clean and admitted to the problems I do not think they would have been racked over coals.
But Afrihost constantly denied any network issues, while many posted tests proving it was the Afrihost network at fault.

Things seem to have improved, but I still notice problems at Random times, so something has been done, but is not full-proof.
They haven't abandoned MyBB... Drop them a pm

I think it was a pure business and legal decision to go quiet because they realised denying the streaming issue on their network in the Western Cape region opened up the company to some contentious legal territory.

When there was a spike in users reporting the same thing they went silent. Has nothing to do with "abuse".

They don't want to comment on the issue because they realized there is an actual issue now and by admitting it they would then have to backtrack on their earlier denial.

And no, this isn't a personal attack. It's an observational opinion of how employees act when they've dugged themselves a hole. They're human after all.

That being said, I am confident they've escalated the network issue from the reporting here and will work to get it resolved.

Yes - don't want *another* fine / sanction by the ISPA now, do we...

Just a random question. Why do people still stay with AH if they received bad service from them. It's not like AH is the only ISP in South Africa.

Stockholm Syndrome

EDIT: I also don't notice any issues.

It appears that there are some who are intent on insulting those who have limited or no issues.
I for one appreciate this thread and the value it adds as the representation from Afrihost.

Bad enough that reps are no longer active appears some disgruntled are hell bent on pushing things to thread closure.

I have had issues in the past, and normally it takes one post to point it out, and it gets picked up. And then it is PM's to continue if required. Going on and on and on and on in this thread just makes it hard for anyone to sympathize or even to use the thread. I have had nothing but fantastic service from the AH reps on here.

Hello Peter is available if you want to post complaints. Don't spoil it for all of us.

Maybe it was fixed. Mind doing a trace to youtube.com to compare? :)

I current get allocated 500mb cellular data I get from AH+ to a prepaid sim. I then signed up for the data for all 250mb for R1 to the same sim.

Problem is when I go into client zone my 500mb AH+ data is no longer allocated to a number. Please confirm if by signing up to the data for all promo AH will combine the 250mb + 500mb AH+ to my selected Mtn sim.

See different point of present cpt-up2.ip.adsl.co.za

You're on a different Point Of Presence to Kohlhtor - this is what he is saying, his routing has a problem, but nothing ever gets done about it.
I know that, but im sorry, i just dont have time for him anymore. To indicate that Afrihost pays me to say these things, that i didnt appreciate it.

but i have no problems

I'm in CPT and i had problems the last 2-3 weeks, last night again. Seems to be mostly at night time anything between 6-11pm. Last night was around 10 i think, lasted for almost an hour.

And youtube have had issues at different times during the day and night with very slow buffering or no buffering at all, when everything else sails smooth, tested it on multiple browsers was still slow, don't know what that was about. Working fine today, will reply if i experience something again tonight.

Once again, just after 7pm at night this is what happens:

Popular videos load excellent, as you can see:

S7RBsit.jpg

But Live videos and lesser popular videos just don't want to load up at all:

rfsCGwr.jpg

I'm on an Afrihost Capped account in Cape Town with an excellent 20mb vdsl connection. To me it seems that videos that are sourced from locally cached servers are working great, but as soon as it needs to get it from an international source (as one would expect with Live videos and videos with low view counts) it just dies out.

Around 11pm it's fine again.

Is your YouTube experience anything like mine? :)

Yes. :)

I tested your stream as well and found that it was a live news broadcast.
Didn't have any buffer problems but it didn't have the option to go higher than 480p.
Quality and performance was very good.
