Afrihost New Network Feedback - Part 2

Thanks for sharing your result, there's definitely something up here. Are you seeing this happen with all Youtube Live videos or only that specific one?

Three different people have already reported seeing issues with other YouTube live streams earlier tonight. You provided your own link for us to test, and now even more people reported that one also not working.

It's safe to assume this issue applies to all Live links as well as other videos that load from international servers.

Waiting for about 1-3min the "Stream Host" changed and it started to work.
If I refresh the page I am back on the Stream Host that does not work.

This one is working:

Anyone else have this? If the video manages to start normally sometimes after a while it will just die and then stop loading mid way through.

Multiple people (myself included) over the last two pages report the same thing tonight (further back, for the past two weeks, as well). It looks like it's centralized to Cape Town.

I've seen that, too, sometimes. That would indicate a latency issue to the international destination in my opinion.

Yes that is what's currently happening that we all are complaining about.
It is fine during the day, but seems to go bad around 19H30-19H45 usually.
Tonight it started around 18H30.
And then it recovers at some time in the evening when the load is lessen as people go to bed.

But like I showed above, after some minutes my Live Stream of Al Jazeera started working when the Stream Host and CPN automatically changed. But this does not happen on non-live streams. Or if it does, I have not seen it yet.

Same here.

From what I've seen over the last two weeks it's an issue for Cape Town Afrihost users.

I previously had reports from Clients in other regions experiencing the same issue, tonight however, you are right it does seem limited to our Cape Town Clients. :(

Not ideal at all. I've forwarded all of the results that you guys have gathered for me, and our Team will look into this and get to the bottom of this.

Great. Fingers crossed. Seeing as though this only happens in the evenings, you can get into contact with me tomorrow night if you'd like to run some Live tests on my side while you monitor the traffic on my account on your end.

Well I'm in the Eastern Cape and the feed I tested took about 3mins to start. VOX was instant.

There must be something going on at the Afrihost network here in Cape Town and how or what Stream Hosts are selected.
Not sure how it is done, if it could be area dependent. We are in the Northern Suburbs, maybe we route to a different Content/Cache server then those in town or in the Southern Suburbs.
I know Telkom has 2 large connect points here in Cape Town, 1 in Bellville Durban Road and 1 in Cape Town at Barack Street.
I really have no clue how this all works, I just know that YouTube works very bad in the evening for me, during the day I have no issue at all.
And if I switch to my Primary account at VOX , YouTube streams just fine.

Yeah, Northern Suburbs here as well and friends on Afrihost in Northern suburbs report same issue – as well. Switching to different ISP (Webafrica) it then works for me, too.

Not sure where Afrihost Cape Town offices is, but would be interesting to see what people who work there at night say.

YouTube live streams are not being viewed by a lot of people so that's why the reporting have been low (especially considering it only happens in evenings). As soon as Afrihost asked people to test a Live stream in this thread the reporting of those videos not loading spiked.

This is the Live feed we should be watching:

Thanks for looking into this, guys.

I can also confirm - none of these live streams worked for me initially. However, after a minute or two, they did start. When I force-changed the resolution, it was back to the waiting game.

That said, I've not had any other videos tonight that wouldn't start. They generally start a bit slowly, then I bump the res up to 1080, and its away from there. An improvement on last night.

Google DNS - if that helps. Also Northern suburbs (I see a pattern here).
