Afrihost New Network Feedback - Part 2

Mweb's own DSL network has fallen apart, I have Tested

Telkom to Mweb
Mweb to Mweb
IS to Mweb
VOX to Mweb
Afrihost to Mweb

Yes there are problems on Mweb's network, but for some reason Afrihost to Mweb seems to be the most constant.

I am running VoIP over DSL to talk.mweb.net, and it terrible on Mweb's own network!

Who knows when Mweb will take this problem seriously....

Thanks for confirming this, Hummercellc. I can confirm that our NOC Team have logged this with Mweb's NOC engineers and are working together to find a solution.

Mind sending comparative results using Afrihost DNS?

Can't, others currently gaming and I am not going to interrupt them. Also, I don't understand how it would have an effect on ping considering that the look-up would only occur once at most. (unless you are referring to the path taken? I am sure you'd be able to replicate the issue easily enough, start up a League of Legends custom game on the EUW server. If you need to download it, it's 5.9GB, so just over an hour on a 10Mbps line, which would still allow you to check it tonight. I am sure as a rep you have an account without a data limit)
The issue is not time-out, it's connecting and fetching it from the correct server, the issue is that the latency is extremely high at your peering link.

EDIT: I'll ping/tracert/download, whatever, just not going to do anything that might impact others in the house, e.g. rebooting router.

EDIT2: You even made me doubt myself enough to go check if the DNS settings would actually influence it.

DNS has no effect on ping whatsoever. It is nonsense. DNS provides name resolution services and that is it. Nothing more and nothing less.

Your internet connection does not go through the DNS server, nor would routing through it improve your speed as chances are you will be going through several other connections (potentially on the wrong side of the world) before heading back to where you wanted to go. This does not happen normally anyway.

What Google or OpenDNS might provide you is a slightly faster resolution of names to IP address and possibly some level of protection from known malware domain names.

You might get a quicker initial name resolution, especially if your ISP has a small DNS cache and doesn't see requests for that site often, but after the first request both your server and local machine will cache the request meaning that Google or OpenDNS will be slower if there is a large distance between you and their servers. There will be no improvement to ping tests at all except for possibly the initial lookup.

And the result is no.

That's the chat part of the client, it's hosted in the US.

Ah okay. My bad and noted.

Yeah, just check for one of the other IPs, the one in the performance monitor will be ~15-20ms lower as the in-game latency includes the server and client processing time.

Rocket league PS4 lagging badly tonight. Latency normally between 170-185ms, around 210-230 currently.

Any reason for this?

Dont ask them they'll make you do tests for the next month.

My nephew was complaining about lag spikes on afrihost in the evenings. I tested between afrihost and other isps and afrihost has way more latency, aside from the spikes they were running between 30 to 50ms over the fastest isp I tested.

If you continue to get lag I'd recommend testing another isp and see if you get better results.

Latency pretty darn high

It's still amazing how after months and months, Afrihost STILL haven't addressed Twitch streaming issues. Many people over many months and still nothing.

Night time latency goes up by over 100ms in diablo 3

Got home early on Friday, 198-210ms then comes 6pm-ish and 360ms latency, same with saturday and sunday.

Night time latency is sucking hard at least to blizzard
