Afrihost New Network Feedback - Part 2

Im testing daily with my AH Account and the ping literally spikes at between 19:00 and 19:30 like clockwork and vanishes late at night, like 11:00 or 12:00 and I distinctly remember this happening a few months back and a lot of people complained. It seems to be repeating itself again and seems to be a problem for a lot of people.

I constantly sit with "Poor connection to host server" in The Division but the moment I switch to my VOX backup account it goes away and pings are rock solid. Switch back to Afrihost and ping a number of servers directly and the moment it reaches the international breakout the ping is horrid again. Diablo jumps from 180 to 300+, WoW jumps to 300+, Smyte jumps to 400+ etc. etc. Switch back to VOX and its like microwaved butter, runny and smooth. There is definitely something up and the NOC team need to find it fast.

The guys are running end to end tests, and we're working with as many users as we can to find the issue. I totally understand your frustration here, I promise you were are not ignoring this issue.

We do have our own active Facebook cache, it's possible it depends where the content was last drawn from, but I think our network will always look at our cache first.

I can confirm that here in CT at least, Facebook images are not loading at all since yesterday evening. Irrespective of which DNS, computer or browser I use. Switched over to WebAfrica now and Facebook is fine. So there's definitely a problem on AH network with this... FB pages load fine, its *just* the images which are not loading at all.. perhaps your FB image caching server needs a kick?

+1 to this, exactly the same story was observed by me this morning, about 9am, also CT

I've kicked this upstairs along with the other reports we've seen today

Are you only seeing issues in Twitch, or general latency issues as some are reporting here? :(

As of right now all my pings are in line with what I was previously seeing.
I would have to check them again tonight to be sure.

I'll do some more testing and let you know later today or tomorrow.

Also I see my UserCP is still messed up, the one I posted about a few days ago with the package upgrade screen just showing GB and price.

Thanks for testing for us.

Did you forward those issues to any of the other reps so I can follow up? If not, please email me on [email protected] with screenshots and your account details.

No change yet - still the same

From CT the routing to FB is via

ix-ae-7-0.tcore2.KLT-Cape-Town.as6453.net
if-ae-2-2.tcore1.KLT-Cape-Town.as6453.net

and then on to Lisbon

Hello,

Would just like to reiterate what some people are saying here. Latency to international servers are poor. Specifically Diablo 3 (300-400ms) and Guild Wars 2 (280-400ms). Ordinarily these games run with a stable 200 ping. Other games like The Division, Overwatch, Path of Exile and BF1 also show intermittant lag.

The problem seems to be packet loss. Downloading and browsing are fine, however. 4mb uncapped line using Afrihost.

Thanks for running all these tests. Our team is going through them now :)

I'm afraid the P2P routing for gaming to Steam servers etc has been very poor for a long time on AH, and causes us in ZA to get kicked off steam servers for causing lag issues in multi-player games for other gamers accessing the same server in the USA or EU.

We're definitely not routing P2P traffic differently, and any shaping would only be applied to Home or Premium Uncapped when there is demand on the network. We generally test as many games as we can rigorously to ensure that we properly identify any gaming traffic to not be shaped and to receive priority on the network.

Then you should download Star Trek Online, because your latency to that game is horrible, over 2000ms in a loading screen, seriously.

Is there something wrong with the userCP?

When going to "Change to Another Package" under my current data account it just shows this:

View attachment 402532

Uh yeah... That's not rght... Please PM the username that you are getting that drop-down on.

Thanks for testing for us.

You can see the above quoted post. I did send my details to AfriGenie, who said he passed it on to the devs.

i don't think so, we have a local Facebook cache, so most content should not be affected by latency at all.

LOL. No dude, not even Facebook works. As I've said NUMEROUS times, the latency is LOCAL, on YOUR network even. It's AMAZING how you elect to apply your selective reading...

Our cache was only recently brought online, so some of the more popular content may still reside on Mweb while our cache "fills up". Just a guess though, I'll ask the experts.

Definitely sounds pretty horrible. That's more extreme than what we're generally seeing though. Are you seeing it get that bad with that game specifically or on your general latency?

Marvel Heroes 2016 which also routes to USA seems fine. STO's like that each end every time I start it, doesn't matter which time of day.
Other services seems ok. Except for torrents, which speeds were all over the place last night.
