Afrihost New Network Feedback - Part 2

So like so

Original
400 GB + 400GB@ R399
Dsl Line @ R279

New unshaped package
400GB @ R399
DSL Line @ R279

So on the new package you potentially see double data fall away, but thats okay as it was only a promo anyway. So the unshaped pacakge is still what you would or should be getting at the original pricing

But it's not. The 400GB unshaped new price is R799.

As I said, the old 400GB account for R699 was a custom Legacy package that was on offer. It is not a package that we offer any more.

The current 400GB Capped account is either R399 for the Shaped Capped account or R799 for the 400GB Unshaped Capped option.

I've been discussing all of this with Dianysis via PM and you are welcome to continue this discussion via PM, but at the moment we're just re-hashing our previous messages.

And again I say - why must I pay more for a 400gb unshaped capped account which I have been on this whole time? How is that fair to me as a customer?
So again to RE-HASH:
I currently pay R699 for a 400gb capped account bundle (which has always been unshaped) and now I need to pay R998 for a 400gb unshaped account bundle for the same thing - just a different name/package.

This is the 400 gig data only cost. The reason i ask if your line is included, is because AH manages your line so a cost will be for data and line.

So basically if the R799 includes line, then you will not choose the shaped option, but the unshaped one which was your legacy pacakge, and the promo data falls away. :)
R799 doesn't include the line.

I know you cancelled or thinking about it, but why not give the shaped package a go for a month. It hasnt started yet, and if what was said ie only shaping when network under strain, then you should be okay as a normal unshaped user.

Cancelled already. Still a valid customer until end of January.

Thanks for your positivity and optimism though.

See how it goes through January, and let us know if the experience is as terrible as what people are already saying it will be.

I'm gonna keep an eye out in January. A friend of mine has over 1TB of unused data with Vox and he's not gonna use much of it so I'm currently switching between Afrihost and his Vox account. Fb videos are doing amazingly well on Vox compared to Afrihost.

If Afrihost's shaped capped sucks, unfortunately I'm jumping ship. Hope it doesn't come to that.

We've changed the Unshaped Capped accounts to actually be called Unshaped Capped accounts now.

Unshaped Capped accounts are still available as they previously were, the difference is that Double Data has fallen away, but you can still use Plus+ to give an Unshaped Capped account Double Data again.

Thankyou, now can you make that the default option rather than switching the masses, who have no Idea what you are doing, over to Shaped Capped.

It is under strain every evening in Cape Town, that is why they are hoping that the vast majority will go like sheep into the default Shaped option. Then they can make the experience better for the shaped users without having to spend money on IPC.

Before the final step of the sign-up each Client will be given the option to either go for the Shaped Capped account or Unshaped Capped account with an explanation of each being provided.

That's definitely not that case. The launch of Shaped Capped accounts was done to provide our Clients with a greater selection of products to tailor their solution to best meet their demands and to have a product available that is in-line with those on offer by other ISPs.

keep on believing yourself

I'm sure you'll have a positive experience. :)

I'm not so sure about that. I've noticed a decrease of the quality of my connection, but I thought it's probably just due to all the double data & freetime madness...

If you've noticed a drop in the quality of your connection then we definitely need to look into this. Are there specific services that aren't running great for you?

Tonight is completely unusable for gaming, I'm timing out every few minutes yet my pings look better tonight than they did last night.

Throughput on downloads is perfect yet this is unplayable almost like the packets for my game were being given very low priority.

Ping statistics for 155.239.255.250:
Packets: Sent = 83, Received = 83, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 14ms, Maximum = 26ms, Average = 15ms

Hopefully your critical care team are able to come up with something...

But what about the hundreds of current clients that have no Idea what you are doing and will end up on shaped by default.
Or is this just another example of New signups are more important than customer loyalty?

If that is the case you would not have defaulted all users to Shaped unless they specifically asked to keep what they wanted in the first place. For some reason it must be advantageous for Afrihost to migrate the bulk of its users to shaped, or the company would not have used such an underhand tactic when all they had to do was end Double Data. You may not know the reason, I certainly don't know the reason, but you can't squash speculation with marketing speak on a technical forum. Try that line in Facebook rather, they believe anything.

Im am experiencing intermittent connectivity issues since yesterday evening around 8pm. My ping time to websites would jump from 100ms to over 2500 ms and I get a lot of missed packets (around 70%). This happens for about 30 mins and then it goes back to being a 'good' connection again, only to repeat a 30 mins later.

Anybody else seeing this? I am in Centurion.
