Afrihost New Network Feedback - Part 2

Status
Not open for further replies.
Hi guys

I've got a bit of a strange problem. We received an SMS last week from Telkom stating that they were doing infrastructure upgrades in our area. This past Monday, we received a 2nd SMS from Telkom stating that the upgrades were complete.

As true as nuts, I had no ADSL service. My modem/router had no sync, and obviously no Internet. I did have a dial tone on my landline though. I reset my modem/router at least 3 times, with no improvement. I logged a fault through the Client Zone, and this was later escalated to Telkom, after the recreation of my port failed. Telkom investigated and said that the physical port was faulty and moved me on to a new port, which caused my line to sync, but for some reason, I still had no Internet.

I am baffled. Please help. The call is still open with Afrihost as my line is through them.

We can definitely follow up for you. Sounds like it may have been more than a backhaul upgrade so there could be complications arising from that. Could you please drop me a PM so I can get feedback for you? :(

So just putting this out there as proof for later when ASSIA starts messing me around again.again.
Currently on a 10 MB line
Modem shows current upstream as 1011, downstream 8015.
SNR upstream 6.4, downstream 6.1
Atenuation upstream 17.7, downstream 31.4

Download Speed: 6241 kbps (780.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 840 kbps (105 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 41 ms
Jitter: 14 ms
‎6‎/‎9‎/‎2016‎ ‎11‎:‎30‎:‎41‎ ‎AM

Download not great but happy with the rest.

Your sync rate is way higher than actual download rate, so that doesn't seem optimal. Seeing as both upload and download SNR is poor, I am guessing ASSIA will probably drop you to at least 8Mbps :(

PM sent. <Crosses fingers that AfriMan has the special sauce to fix this!>

If I can get this type speeds while on a 8 MB subscription which technically should be possible then I'll be happy. Will see what ASSIA do with this 10 MB line.

Pitty Charl isn't around, he would sort your ASSIA profile out in no time. Apparently ASSIA would lock your SNR and adjust your power out put to stabilize the line. It would then have to be manually reset to fine tune your profile.

BTW anyone know what happened to Charl? I just suddenly saw that it's not him replying to my PM's to TelkomZA anymore.

Latency looks pretty normal here, remember that MyBB runs via CloudFlare CDNs.

Also not bad, we also use CloudFlare nodes though.
Where abouts are you seeing latency affect performance?

not been having issues with youtube and netflix for quite some time, but tonight its been buffering a bit. i used open DNS, then switched to the 169.1.1.1/2 DNS and still a bit of an issue. Speed test is also still crappy so im going to guess that exchange is possibly on overload again

What results are shown on Speedtest, are you battling with throughput?

as you can see my connection speed is not great, and thats a concern. I am wondering if i shouldnt drop down to a 10mbps line, but then it might just be worse in terms of speed
