Afrihost New Network Feedback - Part 2

Thanks for the reply. Things are not better. How can a Telkom fault cause my line to become 1mb instead of 4mb? Anyway, sent another pm. Let's get this sorted

Just saw this on an other ISPs thread, I see both Afrihost JHB and CPT IPC's run of this link. Anything we should be concerned about Afri-gents?
"Please note that there is currently a services disruption affecting the West African Cable System (WACS) which may result in increased latency to international destinations".

Was wondering why I was averaging 220ms ping instead of 180ms at 22:30.

Hmmmm.

Let me check what I can find out, and if this affects us.

Im still waiting for dat boi (Gian) to upgrade us 1Meg business plebs to 2Meg since Telkom cut the IPC price.

so what is happening on the Afrihost side with regards to the IPC cuts? Im just talking out loud, because apart from Vox, nobody else seems to have done anything really.

The moment that we have confirmation about what sort of price reductions we can expect, we'll let you guys know. :)

No general issues on our end.
Please post some test data so we can better identify where the potential issues are.

That latency looks like may start on the Exchange already, could you maybe post a traceroute with the Telkom account so that I can compare the two.

The latency is all over the place. What is the latency like if you switch to a mobile connection, and run a speed test?

That's pretty bad. :(

It looks like this could your line or Exchange acting up. Are you getting those sorts of latencies throughout the day?

it is intermittent. mostly from 18h00 onwards but do occur during the day from hour to hour

@ Devo1:

What OS is running the device on which these trace routes have been done?

Do you know what the default MTU settings are and have you done any optimisation to determine the best setting?

Next, are these results via Wi-Fi or with the device plugged directly into the ADSL router/device?

Something seriously wrong

Interesting...

I came here to investigate why my VoIP is so awful. Major packet losses.

Looking at the previous few posts and noting where users are experiencing troubles, it is interesting that I'm:
a) near PE
b) speedtest.net chooses Worcester as one of the closest servers.

Running iperf reports horrendous packet loss and packets coming in the wrong order.

I will be trying a Webafrica account later today.

Please help
