The latency to local sites should preferably be as low as possible whereas international sites should be <200ms if you are a gamer.
ps. The result of route tests are affected if your network is in use. It is best to do them when you aren't downloading or streaming content. The stats you posted look awful, by the way.
If routing differs you should firstly look at your DNS server settings. I leave mine to be assigned by the service provider. You are at the coast, but half way between CT and DBN where the cables land .... I am in gangster land on Telkom ISP.
I get superb results to that site (151.101.16.73) --- 180ms - 188ms. Local connectivity is excellent (13 - 14 ms).
A friend of mine on Afrihost in the same exchange area right now ( he is next door to me, working on the same copper cable to the same exchange) right now while I was doing the trace, gets well over 300 ms. The routing his trace takes so vastly different from mine, BUT his local connection is simply terrible at the moment (varies between 50-ms and 109ms) go figure that one out.
PS: I have a 2Mbps service, he has I think a 4 Mbps service.

Secondly you should test when nothing else is using your network.
Hope this helps.![]()
I am not complaining and yes I have not "fiddled" which DNS servers are used, and yes both my tests and my neighbours done this evening were not influenced by anything else running.
What I am trying to point out, He is on Afrihost and I am not, and his performance locally as well as internationally is terrible. Yes he has not fiddled with the DNS settings, they are as specified by Afrihost.
The point is What the H is wrong with Afrihost ????
I am not in a position to answer that question but if I go with my internet experience I would say nothing is wrong with Afrihost.I am not complaining and yes I have not "fiddled" which DNS servers are used, and yes both my tests and my neighbours done this evening were not influenced by anything else running.

Your line is always perfect, there must be a squadron of telkom techies attending to it 24/7/365, so sh!
Daniel, tomorrow morning the reps are back. This is not an "official" support system, it's a feedback thread. The official channels are e-mail, clientzone and SMS/Phone. Try an SMS and see if anyone replies, but it's after hours.
Has he tried using another ISP's account? Also, do fiddle with the DNS settings and change it to 8.8.8.8 as primary and 8.8.4.4 as secondary as a test.
Just because your line is fine doesn't mean his physical line is fine.
Is Afrihost in any way affiliated with Afrihost-Brevis Computer Services (SA)(Pty) Ltd?
I've noticed that they are a service provider for a VPN service.
Looks like at times speeds are down the tubes again tonight, it fluctuates, at times I barely get any upload speed.
I'm having issues watching twitch streams. I have a 40Mb line and yet, twitch is continuously buffering. When streaming at source quality. Twitch only uses 4Mbps at this level which is far lower than what I can give out.
Network is broken Cape Town pop

Lag is an issue and routing?
So basically the only solution for the group of us having constant international problem's is to cancel and go elsewhere. Afrihost don't seem to give a damn. Only a select few are not having any issues, and those select few all seem to be in the Cape area.
I see from the results you've posted over the weekend seem to point to an exchange issue.
@ Iceman , it happened to me as well. Also ,a strange thing keeps happening though, I didn't report it because I thought maybe telkom was busy working on the exchange, it happened again today. See below sessions screenshot. My connection would suddenly timeout/drop for a few seconds and then reconnect. Could you please investigate for me?.
My line is stable, SNR and ATT looks good. I don't see why these drops would occur.
