Afrihost New Network Feedback - Part 2

I'm personally not aware of any price cuts from our end just yet, but that doesn't mean we aren't actively working on things behind the scenes :)

I'm pretty sure the second that we do announce something around this it'll be on the MyBB front page.

why did you have to say that? :D

Morning cavedog. Sorry to hear about the delay in reply here. I'll ask one of our Team member to reply to your ticket right away! :)

Thank you got sorted early in the morning :) Critical Care guys are awesome!

^^ This. My fault has been open for almost 8 months now. Still no ETA on the fix.

Okay yeah that sucks but should be close to upgrade time for you then. I think they weigh up the options if there is enough adsl subscribers or not for them to invest in a upgrade. More complaints I guess will work too but lucky for me the congestion got so bad during peak time that website would not even load on a 4Mbps line. Latency was like 1000ms+

Hi,

I'm having some issues with WoW latency to EU servers, it's probably about 70-80 more than it should be, which means it goes from my usual barely playable 220 to about 300. Is anyone else having this issue? I also have about about 100ms in csgo as opposed to my usual 50-60ms. I have tried using my free 1GB axxess account to test the latencies, but they seemed around the same. (Axxess uses Afrihost network?)

Anyway is anyone else having these issues? I would like to get them looked at as I think it is a routing issue.

Did you try a webafrica or gridhost free account to test if you get the same latency on other networks? For me the KZn ipc connect there is no problems to EU and it's lower than ever with 201ms to EUW in League of Legends.

It could be that you got changed to interleaved adsl mode by telkom?

Things are looking okay at the moment, would you mind running a traceroute to the BBC.co.uk, this should give us an idea of the general latency to the EU at the moment.

Ouch. My connection is now at the point that I cant even browse. It used to only be at night now it is 24 hrs a day.

Nothing works. Nothing

I can't access anything on the Mweb network via Afrihost. And the Google Cache Afrihost uses is on the Mweb network. So YouTube is very slow because it is redirected to international servers. Link down at NAPafrica maybe?

Thanks, I got an account with Gridhost, I will check the latency and do traceroutes to bbc.co.uk on both and post them tomorrow.

That sucks. I'm not really sure how the Metro Ethernet work whether they can just pull a new cable in or do they need to trench and lay.

Maybe your dslam does not support metro ethernet and they net to upgrade or replace.

I'm not sure how the whole process works but lucky for me Telkom did it in like 6-7months after congestion started to happen. Dslam congestion is such a headache because no matter what you will get slow speeds and sky high latency and there is NOTHING you can do about it. You just need to hurry up and wait for Telkom and pay your monthly subs.

Maybe you should gather as much evidence as you can and now shift your focus in the mean time to credit on your account. I did reace like R500 worth of credit during that time especially if it starts affecting you connection for long periods of time.

Sorry to hear :(
Have you been able to run any tests with our team to determine the cause?

Morning

Not aware of any peering/ routing issues from our end.
Did you manage to grab any tests last night? Interested in what source your YouTube content was being pulled down from.

Hey AfriGuy

Yes me and you ran the tests and eventually Telkom admitted a problem on their side.

Afrihost is in the clear. Just venting towards Telkom :)

Ah alrighty :(
Hopefully there's a quick fix in the works!

Hey

So I'm having probably the worst support issue I've had with you guys.
My line has been pinging locally at 200-400ms, and 500ms+ to overseas.
My streaming and gaming is unusable. This has been going for a month, it took 2 weeks of trace routes and speed tests till they finally escalated to Telkom. Telkom came out, said they fixed it, to no change. I told them it wasn't fixed, they said they'd come back. Then this morning I get a email from Afrihost saying my line has been resolved.

What the hell must I do to get it fixed, I've been using LTE for the last month because I can't use my line. Money down the drain there, plus the exorbitant prices of mobile data.

A month and no closer to a resolution?! :/

Heya

Sorry to hear about the poor experience here :(
I'd like to see where this latency is coming in, it sounds far too high.

Is there a traceroute I can take a look at?

Hey, I'm pulling one of the many mails I've sent in, this is one of the more comprehensive tests with a couple ISPs;
