Download speed Afrihost 200 Kb/s webafrica 1.1 mb/s

We going in circles and you simply buying the time!
All things regarding to this "phenomena" were reported numerous times to AFRIHOST
All possible DNS settings on router and PC's (AH / Google /best SA / mixed) were tested - no any difference.
Everything working fine with all these settings with another ISP.
I have only one logical explanation - bad network management from AFRIHOST.
Nothing else!

Must be a regional thing, as my Afrihost account seems to be working fine.

You guys might want to consider adding your location to your MyBB profile by the way. It is always useful for reps and other users to see at a glance what region you're in when you talk about internet related matters.

Thanks I'm in pe

I'm new to this thread on account of my current Afrihost account actually being a temporary replacement of my usual account. Forgive me if you've provided this info already, but have you tested your line with other ISP accounts? Should be easy to determine if Afrihost are the cause of your grievances. It would be pretty weird if you have issues specific to Afrihost in Summerstrand/Humewood, when I'm doing fine on AH in Walmer.

You can update your location here: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/profile.php?do=editprofile

To test I tried grabbing the Skype offline installer, it was running at 98kb/s on a 20meg line with Afrihost. Switched to my Mweb account and immediately started at 1.8mb/s. Really pathetic speeds to international services.

Looks like they have to throttle to "fix" the latency problem. Clear sign of lack of capacity.

Other accounts working fine only Afrihost

Definitely not the case, our Team made good progress last night, and I'm sure during the course of the day there will be further improvements in the East.

How are things looking this morning? Has there been any change?

Funny part is, they don't change their network status to reflect the issues in KZN.

"Our DSL Broadband network is not running like a bomb!"

So they randomly selecting who to throttle? Would be strange if that was the case, as not everybody are having issues.

But I see their are different pop in cap town

I see almost 6 months down the line after I investigated whether or not I should get a service from Afrihost (I decided against using AH), absolutely nothing has changed.

The same problems over and over again, continuously trying to tweak performance does not help, IF the basic network issues are not addressed and fixed which includes amongst other things:

Reviewing the complete structure of your network;
Consolidating the available capacity on critical routes into a few high capacity links;
Increasing the available capacity on links; and,
Making sure network configuration complies with International standards with regard to (amongst other glaring issues) how your DNS servers are set up, which I see is still non-compliant.

Really AH this is not rocket science. How can you possibly continue to treat your customer base like a bunch of lab rats while various people in AH play configuration tweaking games??

Something still not right?

My ping to that destination is around 19ms, what do your pings look like?

Sorry to hear you feel that way. We aren't trying to buy time, we're simply not seeing an issue in your area so will need to look at some data to advise further.

Results look fairly standard for CloudFlare.

I'll query this with our network team, although I'm not aware of any peering issues.
Could just be how the routers communicate with each other.
