Afrihost New Network Feedback - Part 2

Status
Not open for further replies.
round trip ping to fbcdn-photos-a-a.akamaihd.net from Eastern side of Cape Town is 12ms - but no images loading on FB.

Ran a IPv6 test

Experiencing the same here.

Facebook is unusable, switched over to my Telkom account and everything loads fine.

I take it that this isn't an account specific issue then but a problem with Afrihost?

Yup, people I know all over Cape Town on Afrihost report the same. Switching to different ISP is fine.

Obligatory "Hhmm...strange, can you run a few tests please?" is the usual response from Afrihost when this sort of thing happens.

Then after running the tests, the usual response: "That shouldn't be happening :(".

Trace to facebook.com. Latency looks very good. :)

Hi,

I am not sure if this is part of the same issue, i scanned through some of the comments.

I have logged calls with both Telkom and afrihost.
8mb line, afrihost capped account, my main issue is the latency when connecting to international servers.
now the tests i have done have all been sent to the support team.
a friend is on afrihost and has the same issue.
when using a different ISP we dont have the same problem.

we did traces on both ISP's and you can see the difference, while gaming on battlefield 1 the ping reaches over 1000ms on the trace.

i have had not feedback since they escalated to their critical care team, now i get an invoice for the subscription, i really feel that the issues experience what am i paying for?

what can we do instead of cancelling and moving to another ISP?

Thank you.

I have had subsequent correspondence to say that the Telkom issue is closed.

In frustration I called support 5 minutes ago.
The dude saw the fluctuation on the line and agrees that a fault be logged.
I have just had confirmation that indeed a fault has been logged ..... finally!!

Its so frustrating when I ask you to log a fault and get a cut and paste response about the router and check this and that.
Someone needs to chat to your support staff ...... really.

Sorry to harp on but dealing with support can be excellent at times and at times, its more painful than being circumcised with a rusty razor and no anesthetic.

Anyway ... thanks for your help, appreciate it.

Glad to hear that there is progress being made. :) I think Genie has sent you over to CC, regardless. We'll get to the bottom of this for you.

Our NOC Team is reporting that Facebook and related services are starting to look good. Are you using any custom DNS settings?

Hey Shlumpy. Would love to take a look at some of your tests and see where I can help out. Could you PM me your account details and the ticket reference numbers you have with our support team?

Sorry to hear about that, kohlthor. I have passed your feedback onto our NOC Team.

I'm going to go start a LoL custom game, will give you a tracert. It will probably hover around 300ms+ again.

EDIT: 280ms, yay, not 300...

Fb,instagram not working.

Must say the past 2/3 months with afrihost have been horrible.

Ever since the R1 special and all those other specials, something clearly changed with the capped accounts.

Guess i should do what everyone does, and have two isp accounts.

Eish,only in Mzansi hey!

Is there any service that works like it should in this country:confused:

Thanks for testing. Last night you mentioned that you're not the only user on your home network while testing. Would you be able to send me a comparative test while you're running solo on your network over LAN?

Sorry to hear you feel that way. :( I can assure you that the promotions we're currently running are unrelated to any issues you might be experiencing. We're seeing positive reports around the Facebook issue at the moment. Mind confirming DNS settings and perhaps even rebooting your router?
