Existing Capped clients will remain unshaped until 1 January 2017. From today we will be sending out emails where our Capped clients will be given the option to opt for the Priority-Boosted Capped package. Clients who do not respond to the email will automatically be migrated to the Shaped option, but will be able to change their packages in Clientzone. :)

If I take the unshaped option, I am on a 150GB account, will I still get free time and roll-over.

Ouch, this is unfortunate - why could you rather not take away the free time completely and leave the capped packages unshaped

Do you know how I got my priority boosted on the network? I got an unshaped capped account instead of uncapped. Now I'm also going to be shaped, whenever you guys feel like the network is under strain, which can be anytime you please. What's the point of this? What exactly are you trying to accomplish? You trying to curb usage on capped accounts? Seriously...

Capped accounts going shaped? "Hey choose the boost package on your capped account to not get shaped"

We bought capped for unshaped.

Whats the point of capped shaping accounts, less shaping hours over uncapped accounts?

I just checked my 100gb account now costs r99,did you automatically adjust pricing? Seeing i paid r199 for that option all the time.

How much is the boost going to cost to unshape my 100gb,i didn't see the pricing.

Wow, are you guys actively trying to lose customers? K@k move people.

We've decided to do this because we've been actively compared, in terms of price, to other ISP Capped packages which are shaped. People have often compared our original Premium Capped packages to Shaped packages from other ISP's. So to keep on par with price and have a true comparative product we decided to create Shaped Capped packages and then also give our clients the choice to choose to have a Premium package in the form of Priority-Boosted Capped packages which aren't shaped. :)

That's somewhat a bull**** response tbh. So it has nothing to do with your network? Just because your competition has shaped capped, means you guys need to also? That makes zero sense.

Please clarify some confusion ...example would work best:

I was on 50 + 50= 100 gigs at R99

from the small print:

4 Priority-Boosted Bandwidth
- Paid Monthly Capped DSL Packages get Free Unshaped Double Anytime Data until 31 December 2016, at which point, unless the client chooses Priority-Boosted Bandwidth, will be switched to double their current allocation using Shaped Capped Data from 1 January 2017 onwards.

Is my understanding thus correct that if I opt for Shaped Capped Data (!!) I will pay R99 per month for 100 gigs shaped data?

Once again, some ******* corprorate retard without a clue decides to screw every single CAPPED account customer over.
WHY NOT GO BACK TO THE OLD ACCOUNTS?!NO ONE ASKED FOR FREE ****ING DATA!
CAPPED PEOPLE WILL NOW SUFFER ALONG WITH EVERYONE ELSE WHEN AFRIHOST FEELS NETWORK LOAD - WHICH IS EVERY ****ING DAY! SO YOURE PAYING AND GETTING THE SAME AS AN UNCAPPED CUSTOMER BECAUSE P2P and LARGE DOWNLOADS ARE SHAPED FIRST ON ALL PACKAGES!
WELL DONE ON LOSING CAPPED CUSTOMERS AFRIHOST - ALL BECAUSE YOU DONT KNOW HOW TO PLAN NETWORK LOAD! ****ING MORONS!

Vox Telecom offers 200GB unshaped data. Sad thing is, those that signed up before Vox did the package upgrades got more data for being loyal.

Afrihost doesn't reward loyalty. Even the R 1 packages was for new customers. Current customers got no saving. Absolutely sad.

Free time may be valuable but if it's causing the network to break, then stop the free time. If you want free time, why not moved to uncapped? I am on a capped package for the unshaped experience. Otherwise what's the use of going to capped?

I think it is time to move
It is the same as last year afrihost failing apart and the long customer get robed
You have last year lost your reputation
This year you no open to customers about your network capacity now you scrap long time customer

No you forfeit half your cap for it.

Technically you do pay more. If you on a 200GB capped package, to remain on a 200GB priority boosted capped package, you pay more. Reducing half your Cap is just to make it seem okay.

Firing up other trial capped accounts now so I can compared shaped other isp's shaped vs unshaped afrihost. If performance is the same then its time to jump ship.

im more confused now lol.. so Do i have to pay more for Priority Boosted package?

Yes,or your capped account becomes shaped. Everyone's accounts is going automatically to shape 1 january if you don't pay extra for the "BOOST"

Gian didn't get his bonus this year,so needed a quick fix to make some money.:D

I thought double data were made permanent a while ago when IPC prices were halved.

Changing specifications for capped accounts aren't cool. I'm very disappointed in you Afrihost. :(

Hey Guys

I'm just going to give AfriNatic a bit of a break and jump into this convo.

I think there are two huge misconceptions here, and I think this might be at the centre of some of unhappiness coming out here.

Firstly, I think it's important that I clarify that the Shaped Capped DSL is not intended to be shaped wherever possible. We reserve the right to shape, and this is in times of severe congestion. We will always shape Uncapped first, starting with Home (which can also be throttled), then Premium, then Business in extreme circumstances. Only when all these options have been exhausted, we reserve the right to shape Shaped Capped DSL to preserve network performance. We're talking about very exceptional circumstances and we except that ultimately the Capped experience will remain very much the same. But some clients may never want to be shaped under any circumstances, and they can opt for the premium, Priority-Boosted option.

Secondly, I think a lot of people feel like we're removing Double Data, in which case they are receiving less data. This has come up when we've ended Double Data in the past. Remember that Double Data was a promotion, and it was never guaranteed to be permanent. While we would love to always give more data back, it's always based on costs and feasibility. In planning for the year to come, this was a way to easily allow clients who don't mind giving us the option to shape a cheaper product, while clients who don't want that are still getting the data they were paying for (remember that packages over R299 are still going to get Free-Time).

Aside from the issues raised around having a range of comparable products so clients can compare us with competitors in a balanced way, this was really the best way we could try to give our clients the very best value from Capped DSL, and also preserve a high performance level on the network to preserve our clients internet experience.

I'm really happy to engage on this and I'll try to answer as many questions as I can here so we can all end up on the same page :)

It's definitely something that factors in all the variables with us to provide a sustainable, quality service. Having comparable products to competitors is important, otherwise we price ourselves out of the market, even though we offer a higher quality product. However, we also want to give clients the option to get more data and more value for what they spend, and we think this is the best way to do this without driving our costs up even further, where our margins are already incredibly low.
