Afrihost New Network Feedback - Part 2

I don't think anyone understands it 100% including Afrihost.

To me it's fairly straightforward and I see the logic in it.

Double Data promotion is basically ending, but AH wanted to offer users the chance to keep it, so:
1) Keep Double Data but be subject to possible shaping
2) Lose Double Data, and have the normal Capped product i.e. no shaping

Win/Win I would think. I can see how they thought about it. Keep the users that really really want the Double Data happy, and continue with the normal product offering as well.

I went for the normal unshaped offering (i.e. now called Priority, should have just called it Standard Capped) as I have AH+ which already gives me Double Data.

Simple.

Then it should have been Cancel Dubble data and all packages revert to what they were.
Then create a new shaped package with double date and the option to switch to it.

Opt In NOT Opt Out.

Still the issue of cost remains. Are we or are we not paying the same for eg 400gb unshaped capped data as we did pre-october when the double data etc started. In my mind it seems we will be paying double.

Ok then try this not quite so hypothetical example:

An elderly couple want internet to watch movies and skype the grand kids in Australia or America etc.
They have no concept of capped, shaped freetime double data etc.
They just want affordable internet that meets their needs at a price point.

A family member from America, whilst here on holiday, sets up an Afrihost Unshaped 100GB account based on the fact that 100GB is more data than they need and unshaped is essential for Streaming and Skype.

Several years later you have added Double Data, they don't care, they probably don't even know.

Then you add Free time, but they are mainly streaming and skyping in the evenings so they don't notice.
They are still happy within the 100GB they pay for.

Now suddenly you take away the package they have been paying for for several years add data that they dont need or want and remove the unshaped aspect which they do need and want.

The family member is in America, the Old couple don't understand your email and, rightly assume, that the account will default to what they have been paying for all along. But instead it defaults to a totally different package.

That my friend is borderline "bait and switch" and I think the Consumer Council will be getting several similar reports.

Cancel Dubble data and free time, that is your prerogative, change someone's package from unshaped to Shaped just because it suits your bottom line is not.

Your example makes sense - and I think that we can all spend the day thinking of more perfect scenarios which we could use to debate circumstances. :) But the bottom line is that we have communicated our new Capped offerings to our clients and we have given the option to switch to either.

Did you have Double Data on your account? So they kept you on what you had already... Dubble? Trouble?

I'm paying the same as I always was? R299 for 150Gb and R99 for AH+ - Nothing has changed on mine..

Some people would prefer to keep double data. Your standpoint is subjective

I was paying R699 for 400gb unshaped capped data with dsl line rental included as a bundle (before the double data etc).
Will I continue to pay that if I click the 400gb priority boosted option and will it include the dsl line rental as a bundle? That is what I am trying to get a clear answer to.

So the old couple are screwed out of what they payed for as a loyal client for several years?
That scenario is not a one off that I cooked up, it is an actual query I received yesterday.
That couple don't even know how to sign into the client zone, so I advised then to Skype their family member to do it for them.
But how many like that will fall through the cracks?
Default it to what they payed for, not what you think they would like.

I have line as well (40mb DSL) in my package. I expect to pay exactly the same as before (R764)

So do I.
And that is what I am trying to find out from AH. But not really getting a clear yes or no.

NO, my standpoint is fact, you offer double data no matter if we used it or not and had the option to take it away as it was free.
You do not have the right to make it a permanent part of the package and then shape it.

It is your stand point that is subjective, mine is logical, legal and what your own web page has said for years.

So just been told I will be paying R998 for the 400gb unshaped capped dsl bundle. That is R299 increase that I paid for the same thing in October (pre-double data).

Shouldn't you be getting 200GB if you opted for priority capped? Or did they charge you for 800GB, but you'll only get 400GB because you want it unshaped?

I really don't know to be honest. I just want what I had before october which I was paying R699 for - 400gb unshaped capped bundle.
Got the email clicked on the priority boost option.

Okay AfriMystery is on.. whats up guys, whats your problem? :D

on a serious note, who is on, Genie, AfriFanatic :D Fella or Man. I have to send my now legendary AfriPM to one of you.

Just quickly, you will get 400 gigs on priority, but it will be something like 200 + 200 gigs. Same with me, i am doing a 300GB package at R299, but its split to 150 + 150GB's. If i opt in for the shaped pacakge, i will get 300 + 300 Gigs at R299.

At least thats what the email allueded to or showed me.

If this includes Afri+, then the pricing structure needs to be rectified, because Plus is R99 on its own, thus it should be 150 +150GB's at R398
